Einstein is reported to state that compound interest was the most amazing thing in the universe to him. Whether that is an urban legend or not it is still true. With the 15% DC (and to be 16% if the TA is ratified) your year that paid you twice what the typical FO could earn--made possible by the contract that so many in 2012 described as a "POS!!!!!!" and now made even richer by this TA that will likely be ratified--will give you far, far more in retirement than any FedEx or UPS guy will likely walk away with.

If you understand compound interest and "TVM" (dirty word though it may be) than you will see my point. If you insist on residing in a DPA/Sh!t-Chat realm of muttering, wailing and gnashing of teeth then you will not.

Just a bit of public school math here..... but 1800 hours of 717b probably doesn't equate to a similarly situated and inclined 777A pay.

Or perhaps even a similarly situated and inclined 717a pay.

Just because a pilot moves to the left seat..... doesn't mean they automatically lose the ability to do the math.

I heard of an 88B that had over 2400!

Family thought he was an enigma!

The year I had was due to the company getting caught with their staffing pants down. Not sure it will be nearly as doable this year, the staffing is much better. You do know they can make premium pay at the cargos? And they use that compounding thingy with their B-fund plan, on top of their lucrative pension.

Who knows, change is always a constant. In 10 years, maybe only 1 Pilot per cockpit...15 years?

Holy tax lawyer Batman! Will be interesting to see how this year plays out. The 717 staffing is much better than Nov 15.

These numbers won't be bankable. Staffing on the 717 is considerably better than one year ago. As to blowing them away, Their A plan alone is considerable; add the B plan and they're cooking with fire. My friends enjoy premium pay at the cargos.

In any case like many have said - I doubt all of QOL givebacks will get in the way of you earning 150 hours a month the easy way, while the rest of Yes voters are busy selling our greedy souls for the $$$$.

Apologies Scoop. I was reacting to your qol vs $ statement in the post. I fly half the hours I'm paid, on average. Not everyone can do that. Our votes are in on the TA. Like any democratic election, I'll live with the results and move on. The thing that bothers me is getting pegged as a DPA supporter because I don't like the TA. The two aren't connected. Thanks for keeping me honest Scoop.

PS I don't think I'm clever! I learned to roll thunder fromy one of the best. His pay to work ratio brings a tear to my eye!

^^^

Even with the shortage we have looming, the GS trip buy plan is never long term. I've seen it go through 3 cycles on the 320 in the last 7 years. When the getting is good, it's good. They always seem to catch up and then that plan dries back up even with lots of hiring.

I've done 3 125+ hour months the last few months and while the money is good, QOL stinks. You basically put yourself on voluntary SC at any base for the entire month.
