[QUOTE=sailingfun;2238277]The day prior. You come after in base pilots and reserves with a yellow slip or regular reserves the company has available.[/QUOTE
Essentially you cut someone out of a GS, except for another out of base WSer.

And if you haven't hit the GS trigger, not filling up with said OOBWS could cut yourself out of a GS.
Here are some others - many of whom wouldn't want the trip - who would also cut out the GS:
7. Out-of-base long call reserve pilots (by base, within RUO)
8. Out-of-base short call reserve pilots (by base, within RUO)
9. Long call reserve pilots for whom the assignment would extend into their regular line day(s)-off (in category, within least intrusion groupings, by RAW value)
10. Short call reserve pilots for whom the assignment would extend into their regular line day(s)-off (in category, within least intrusion groupings, by RAW value)
11. Out-of-base long call reserve pilots for whom the assignment would extend into their regular line day(s)-off (by base, within least intrusion groupings, by RAW value) 12. Out-of-base short call reserve pilots for whom the assignment would extend into their regular line day(s)-off (by base, within least intrusion groupings, by RAW value) 13. Long call reserve pilots for whom the assignment would create a conflict with their regular line rotation(s) (in category, within least disruption groupings, by RAW value)
14. Short call reserve pilots for whom the assignment would create a conflict with their regular line rotation(s) (in category, within least disruption groupings, by RAW value)
15. Out-of-base long call reserve pilots for whom the assignment would create a conflict with their regular line rotation(s) (within least disruption groupings, by RAW value)
16. Out-of-base short call reserve pilots for whom the assignment would create a conflict with their regular line rotation(s) (within least disruption groupings, by RAW value)
17. Pilots who have submitted GSs (in category, in seniority order)

On reserve, I want an open time trip
A question for the reserve bidding experts. I've got a 5 day block of reserve starting on Thanksgiving. A trip in open time has a long layover in my hometown on Thanksgiving night. It starts on the 23rd, my last x day. What's my best tactic to snagging this trip? YS to work on an x day for this trip? I'd GS but I think it would probably not get to me due to seniority. Thanks for the help, it would be pretty cool to spend Thanksgiving with the wife and kids and save somebody from being away from home as well.

Well - I've been but it wasn't a very long overnight. 13 hours and it was raining. I'm usually adventurous but ate next to the hotel. It was a longish drive to the hotel, 20-30 min if I remember? There was breakfast in the morning if I remember too. If you're there longer there is more entertaining things to do I've heard.

Quite a few stars must align for this scenario to work, but if you know you've got to be away from the fam anyway, it might be worth a shot. Just an idea.
P.S. I'm not claiming to be an expert.
