If it isn't on your schedule when iCrew records your 'schedule-check' at 1501, you're technically off the hook until 0001 when you are obligated to be available for notification under Long Call rules. When the phone rings at 0001, you are then on the hook for any assignment with a 1200 (or later) report.
(Ex: Short call @1000 with a 2-hr report time = 1200 report)

After vacation, you can be assigned Short Call as early as 1000 as you are required to be available for contact at 0001.

Clear as mud???

I think you're completely wrong. See my post above.

The 1500 check comes in later in 23.S.5.e.2).b)
In other words, no activity prior to 0500 base time on day-1 except following a Vacation day; then it's 1000 Short call.

You can be converted to short call "no earlier than ten hours from the first attempted contact by Crew Scheduling"(PWA 23.S.5.d.). Thus the 1000 SC start on day-1 (following a Vacation day) (yes, I've been on reserve for a while. )
Whoa! Not correct.

A reserve pilot WILL NOT be:
a. assigned a rotation that:
1) will cause his credit to exceed, or further exceed, the ALV plus 15 hours.
2) will cause his total projected block time to exceed, or further exceed, his block hour limit.
3) is scheduled to interrupt a golden day(s).
4) has a report that is less than 12 hours after his release at his base.
5) has a report earlier than ten hours from the end of his last non-fly day.
Note: A rotation that has a report between ten and 12 hours after the end of a pilot’s last non-fly day will be assigned no later than nine hours prior to the end of such non-fly day.
Exception: A reserve pilot will not be assigned a rotation that has a report earlier than 1200 (base time) if the non-fly day that preceded the on-call day was a vacation day.
6) would cause the pairing of two low-time pilots on such rotation.
7) creates an over-age-60 conflict.
...

First day on call starts with Long Call at 0001. You will never be assigned anything before 1000. SC can start at 1000, or you could have a rotation start at 1000, but it has to be on your schedule 9 hrs prior to the end of your non fly day (1500). If non fly day is vacation, earliest report for rotation is 1200.

1000 is the earliest they can assign you anything on day 1!

You do not have to be contactable during the commute, but you still have to be able to report at 1200, NOT 1400...I'm 99.9% sure anyway.

Day 1 is the key here. After Day 1, you lose the 10am/2-hr commute protections.

Rhino, you're right -- 1200 report for a 1000 short call, but only Day 1. If it's Day 2, you are on the hook at 1000.

I stand corrected. I found that reference in the scheduling guide. Thanks.

I think we're fine tuning this so let me correct this. On any reserve day other than day 1, you can be assigned SC as early as published for your category as long as you have 12 hours rest before it starts.

Thanks for the fine tuning. Learning has occurred.

Newbie Lesson learned: I need to keep reviewing the contract and pay more attention to LOAs.

The ALPA Scheduling Guide is much more palatable. Available on their website.

A large portion of us have paid those dues. Thank you for your service, but those "dues" earn you nothing more than that here. The only "dues" that count here are those paid while in service to Delta.

Why should they have been greenies? What entitles you to a GS over someone more senior to you who chooses to utilize a contractual benefit to WS?
