One day someone is going to take that beach out. That KLM 744 gave it a good shot landing short on the blast pad. Which is also what one JetBlue pilot used for takeoff to the detriment of one onlooker.

Another newbie question for a reserve commuter. On your last day of reserve, does scheduling normally release you early if nothing is going on? Or do you have to sit around until midnight and commute home the next day? Thanks in advance.

If your next days is a "Hard Day Off" (Golden Day, vaca) you are automatically released at noon. Otherwise you have to call to be released.

Yes.

Someday I'll figure out how to get the ones I want. Can be very important/helpful to qol, esp as a commuter.

I dont think that is completely correct. True if on short call, but if on rotation they just have to have you released by midnight base time.

Someone please correct me if wrong.

On your schedule asterisk days are golden days. X days are normal off days. Golden days are required by contract to be at the begin of any group of off days on reserve. If you voluntarily move those golden days, they become regular X days. I always try to bid at least one golden day at the begin of every reserve off day group I have have for the reason stated earlier: you are automatically released from call at noon the day before that golden day.

He is talking about if you are on call, not if you are on a reserve assigned trip. The day before a golden day, if you have not been assigned anything prior to noon, you are cleared to depart.
