Something much more memorable might be a canal barge rental through the canal systems (France, Holland, England, Germany, etc). Cheap, do-it-yourself fun at your own pace, no prior boating experience needed, wafting along intimate little canals thru pastoral European countryside with merely "a loaf of bread, a jug of wine, and thou..."
Walk along the footpaths, bike into local villages, have the wife open and close the ancient locks, as you glide through.... Doesn't get anymore romantic. You can rent one by yourself, or share.
Worth looking into

EDIT: Just saw pilotc90a's response; still happy to have any more links you may know of....
The wife and I did one several years ago,$299 each for seven days through Dargal.com. I haven't seen one at that price in years though. It was nice, although we were the youngest on the ship by far.
Someone else mentioned the rent your own boat. We rented ours through LeBoat.com and it was a blast. Very Leisurely, met lots of great people, drank lots of fresh wine (not that old stuff! ). Also look for locaboat.com.
If you don't want to drive yourself, try: Enchante we got a tour, and it looked very nice, and the smell from the kitchen was amazing.

That sounds incredible.... Can you throw a link or two to the barge outfits? What sort of preparation is needed? (You mention no boating experience needed, but what about where to dock, rules-of-the-road, etc?)

Just next down the ladder (steps 13 - 16 & 10 - 11) covers such assignments with conflict on the REG schedule. Those are a bit less of a bitter pill, since they come with pay protection....
Best defense against this, IMO, is to bid for at least one X day at the end of the RES month.
If that doesn't work (for whatever reason), bid for a trip right at the start of your REG month during such transitions from RES to REG. That way, the single-day of RES is less likely to be used (between only being one day of availability, plus potential rest conflicts with the REG trip); and, if you do get used into your REG month, you'll be pay protected for the dropped trip. Of course, if you really need the first day(s) of the month off, that may not help....

I'm trying to drop a trip that starts on October 30th and ends on November 2nd. The pilot reserve levels Reqd/Avail show 26/2 on the 30th, 36/2 on the 31st, 34/24 on the 1st, and 24/25 on the 2nd. I'm willing to use my APD, but I'd prefer to keep it. Will it let me PD the trip because the reserve levels are acceptable on the 2nd, or will I have to use an APD on either the 1st or 2nd in order to drop the trip?
