An Eva Air Boeing 747-400, registration B-16406 performing flight BR-667 from Atlanta,GA to Anchorage,AK (USA) with 2 crew and hazardeous (flammable) goods on board, was climbing out of Atlanta's runway 09L when the crew reported a gear door problem and levelled off at 5000 feet. The crew subsequently reported they also had a hydraulic quantity low indication. After working the related checklists the crew climbed the aircraft to 9000 feet to dump fuel, requested runway 09L for the return due to performance necessities, the crew declared PAN advising they were still working on their nose gear issue, they had the gear down but weren't sure whether they had nose gear steering. On final approach the crew advised they had no nose gear steering and needed to be towed off the runway. The aircraft landed safely on runway 09L about 75 minutes after departure, the crew advised no further assistance was needed, and the aircraft was towed off the runway.

Been away a few days, sorry if this was already answered I'm a few pages behind...

The Q-Runner is Kew Gardens, LGA, and JFK only, it does not go to EWR. The Crew Runner on the other hand, is the Delta funded FA ride to work which services all 3 airports. Go to Deltanet and do a search for "crew runner schedule". They change schedules every season so you need to be on top of unannounced schedule changes and check Deltanet often.

i try and read the PWA and its like a foreign language. i promise have tried to read section 23 N & O. The follow on question is.... can i call scheduling and politly say i am new and stupid and to please edumacate me without ****ing anyone off and getting fired before i get off probation? i just don't really get how they award reserve and I am too stupid to understand the PWA. Thanks Dudes!
I called about this very item and a very rude scheduler basically told me to go eff off without actually dropping an f-bomb. Then I got the punitive 3am short call the next 3 days in a row, so you YMMV when you call scheduling with gripes. Scheduling is the drive-thru, I'd call ALPA before scheduling.

BTW, what I am 69% certain of is they like to (and can legally) fill a 3 day trip with a guy that has 3 days availability and not waste somebody who has 5 days regardless of what bucket you're in.

thanks dudes for the scheduling answer with regards to reserve. I called, was very chill, they had me on hold for awhile as she got the supervisor, and that guy said that the pilot that should have gotten the call had "chief pilot review" or something on his schedule. So I wasn't completely tumbleweed after all.

We'll need a follow up in a day....did you end up with a 3am short call the next day on reserve?

In hindsight, wasn't much scheds could do to you as you already had the trip!!!!

A good reference for information between the multiple (NYC) airports is the "NYC Welcome Guide" on DeltaNet as well.

Log-in to DeltaNet, then:

1) Admin,
2) Chief Pilot Offices,
3) New York,
4) "NYC Welcome Guide"

I haven't been there in a while, so my info may be dated. Check crewguide and with your co-workers for more. Hotel has a great free breakfast - tip waitstaff at US non-pilot rates and they'll remember you the next time you come in. Excellent gym. The cigar bar across the street has cigars, and lots of professional women that are very interested in your wallet. Good supermarket 3 blocks from the hotel (El Rey) to buy supplies for any excursions (mentioned fishing trips, Amador causeway or Locks picnics). Gamboa rain forest can be done in a day, but probably not desirable on your first trip. Look at tripadvisor forums to select and arrange tours, hotel will do it but twice as expensive. If you speak Spanish go a block from hotel and get a cab at half the cost. The canal museum in Casco Viejo (old city) tells the canal story from a Panamanian point of view that's very different than what is taught in US history.

We're in a very Americanized business/tourist district. You're just blocks away from Tony Roma's, Hooters, etc. If you go there you're missing out. The waterfront has a good running/bike path. The good food (great ceviche) is at Mercado de Mariscos along the waterfront. Good restaurants around the hotel (Las Tinajas has traditional dance show and good food, Casa de Mariscos is expensive and touristy, but great seafood, Parillada Martin Fiero for local steak and sangria, etc.) There are several casinos around if you're into gambling, the one at the Veneto Wyndham had the most table games and a poker room.

It is still rainy season through December. Bring an umbrella or rain jacket for the pop up thunderstorms that will happen. It will be hot and very humid.

I assumed you had checked the schedule of the pilot in question. For future reference you can check any pilots schedule by overwriting the employee number where you check your own schedule or by the personnel function. 95% of the time this provides a immediate answer to why a trip was awarded.
