After Malaysian's unfortunate events recently, they've brought a former Air Lingus executive onboard to run things. He is apparently changing the airline's strategy to become regionally oriented. Not only are their long range 777s and some 330s on the market, they are looking to sell or lease out their fairly new 380s (6 of them I think). There are a lot of questions what this will do to the pricing Airbus can command for new 380s since new orders are slow right now.

Default Trip buy for OE?

One of my trips on May has an "L" prefix in front of every flight number / turn and "OE" marked in the far right column of every segment (4-day trip!), and there's a note under the FO/Captain information that says: "XXX LCA XXXX/XX EMP# TO GIVE 717 INIT CPT IOE TO XXX
XXXX/XX EMP#"

Near as I can tell they've bought the trip.

23.G.5.a. says, "If the First Officer is removed from his entire rotation, he will be guaranteed pay and credit for the scheduled credit of such rotation." I guess under 23.G.5.c.2. they could still require me to DH to or fly any part of the trip, but it looks like they bought the whole thing.

I'm digging this so far.

Questions:
1. Obviously, unless I'm formally notified of being removed, I will show up at sign-in time. If it happens, who will notify me? Scheds? LCA? When? A week out? Day prior? Day of?
2. Based on a search and replies to one of MikeF16's questions, I think if I'm removed I can pickup another trip / put in for a GS if I want, true? Can't find it in the PWA. How soon can I do that, i.e. do I need to wait to be officially notified?
3. Seems kinda early for this to be on my schedule (~2-weeks out); too early to be excited?

In my experience scheduling usually notifies you the night before. Should be a done deal as long as the trip/training stay as planned, trainee is not sick etc. If they don't call for some reason, give them a call the night prior and see what's up.
You will get pay and credit and you can white or green slip another trip once you're officially removed from the current one. Good luck!

Another 21 people off the seniority list. That makes 1,083 people that have left the list since 09/2010. Keep the old guys leaving!!!!

1. Scheduling will call you about 6-8 PM the night prior to the trip. Until then, it is technically not bought.

2. You cannot WS or GS a trip until the trip is bought so you can't do anything until then.

3. They are typically scheduled 1-3 weeks out so it isn't too early to be on your schedule. Don't get that excited, because things can change with the schedule. Once it is scheduled the LCA typically cannot swap to another trip, but he or the other pilot can get sick or the guy in training can get delayed a few days and throw a wrench into your trip being bought.

Seems like Malaysia might be a victim of the ME3.

I had this happen to me last month so I can speak from experience. First, they will not release you until at least 7pm Mecca time since that is when they go through the next day's list to make sure everyone is in place to have the trip covered. I tried calling 30 min early to avoid having to commute to ATL for this very reason and they were adamant that they had to wait til 7

Second, like other have said you cannot white slip/green slip anything until they have officially removed you from the trip.

Third, not too early to get excited. Mine was on my schedule 3 weeks out. With the training pipeline and near max on all fleets the chances of you getting released are 90%+.

Fo's should let the reps know this should not be axed on the next contract. I am hearing from ALPA guys and mgmt. pilots that this is going away in some fashion on the next agreement. If true, this is a HUGE concession to all FO's and they should vote no if they ax it...
