Oh man, you have NO IDEA!

If the 88 guys went strictly "by-the-book", firstly, every jet would be grounded, and secondly, we'd never get finished doing all the "stuff" they require! We'd have to hold on every turn to complete the checklists and briefs!

(For the paranoids, YES that was TIC!)

I was raised in Hampton, but the high school (Winnacunnett HS) was regional, with 1200 kids from North Hampton, Hampton, Hampton Falls and Seabrook.

Them 'Brooka's was a different breed.

Usually in-bread I believe!

I've seen one on the lake with rounded hulls that goes slower than snot, and one with knife edge hulls that flies!

Any suggestions for a used/cheapish cat for my lake that is quite quick, works well in light & strong winds, and will hold 2/3 peeps? I.e., make/model/size/year?

Thx!
Take this question to this website, you'll get plenty of ideas and some links too: www.catsailor.com they have a forum much like this one, where you can get answers. Look on the left, click on New Open Forums. That's where I learned to race cats when I transitioned from monohulls.

Also, there is a very good cat racer living up on Lake Lanier who is also a dealer, might be able to find you something good/used/cheap in the ATL area, his name is Mike Krantz. I don't have the link for his site right now, you might find it on the catsailor site above.

Hard to beat a good, used Hobie 18, Nacra 5.5 or Prindle 18 for your purpose, also check out Craigs list for more used boats for sale.

Good luck.

I actually grew up in Newburyport. My parents moved to NH when I was in college. Them brooka's took all the heat. Aya bub, aya. Fried clams at Salisbury beach. I still haven't tasted anything better.

I played a lot of hockey at the Newburyport rink, and later I flew a C150 out of Plum Island quite a bit. I've got a couple retired Delta buds who keep their big power boats in Newburyport too, but I haven't been through there in a while.

When we were 'under age' we used to drive down to a packie in Salisbury to buy beer, (Naragansett or Fallstaff of course) where it was known he never checked ID's! I probably saw you in the parking lot there no doubt... in 1976.

I haven't been to Newburyport in 20 years. I'm pretty sure I couldn't afford to live there. When I grew up, there were poor kids...north end vs south end. However, there was also no shortage of rich kids too. Lots of parents that were software ipo-ers, one kids dad had the patent for the head tennis racquet, some old money, etc. I grew up across the street from the Dexter mansion. Skated on the mall with my ccm super tacks. Rode my bike wherever, got home after dark. My older brother went to governor dummer my younger went to Phillips Andover I was a public school product... Packie!....it's sad, but local lingo like that is dying out....like 'jimmies' on your ice cream.

I have a couple of old Academy roommates who always tell the same story when I see them after all these years. It was summer cruise for middies and I was out in the western pacific somewhere while these guys had a cruise up and down the east coast. When they got to Boston they called up my parents who were thrilled to pick them up and take them in for the night. Even though they were under age, my dad asked them if they'd like to stop at the "package" store on the way home. These two were from California and looked at eachother baffled and said "sure". They both say that until they pulled into the parking lot, they were sure they were headed to help my Dad drop something off at UPS or FedEx.

BTW, any underage drinker in New England looking to score at the packie would've chosen Haffenraffer (aka 'Green Death'). Might as well get the most alcohol for you money.

I followed quietly but with great interest as a UMass alum - but that Green Death has been directly responsible for some of my greatest stories - and worst mistakes - of my life!

Thank god digital cameras and cell phones weren't around then. Would have been a much tougher interview.

For ice cream, What are jimmies now? I don't know them by any other name.

I have to really think to come up with any NE slang.
