Buddy Pass fare = What he/ you will pay if he travels alone.

Yield Fare = What he/ you will pay if he travels with you.

I've flown with one Pan Am pilot on the 717, he was hired in his early 20s and went to the panel on the 747s. He is a young guy, or very young looking. Those are some interesting stories too.

It's funny how from the outside there was nothing more majestic than Pan Am 747s, but having talked to the pilots they say it was the reason they didn't furloughed and didn't hire for so long.
He gave me my first flying lesson in 1986 in CT. Great guy. Then I had a chance to fly as his FO at big D. Full circle. He retired last year.

There appears to be a fair amount of 717 flying out of LAX this summer. LAS, PDX, SFO all have several flights per day. I'm not seeing any flights to these airports from anywhere else on the 717. ... in other words, how do they plan to get the AC and crews there from the current bases unless they are either A. deadheading or B. Opening a new category...

You don't have to accompany them, right? My 25yr. old daughter travels alone on yield fares all the time.

I thought the Yield Fare is for your family members (kids) who have aged out of their normal (S3 or S2) passes?

The Yield fares are cheaper than the buddy passes, and come up as S3B, vs. S4 for the buddy pass.

Correction. The 717 goes DTW-MCI-SLC-LAS-LAX. It is all in Travelnet.

Sounds much easier than opening an LAX 717 base! Wouldn't want to do that. I say that half-jokingly. I know the DTW guys need the flying and its more complicated than it seems. Would be nice to have some movement for the 15-20 year FOs out here though without a transcon commute.

As a 15 year LAX based FO I agree 100%.

Our day will come. I hope. In the meantime we're enjoying a crystal clear 70 deg morning on Superbowl Sunday. Oops, that might not do much for our seniority. Did I mention the cost of living is through the roof?

I see that now. However, there are 16 departures per day so far out of LAX. Can't do that with one plane and one crew.

If this is for real then they'll have to put out a bid pretty soon. Or deadhead crews and ferry jets in to cover it.
