All these "elder statesmen" captains we have refer to us as Copilots as if they were still flying their bombers or tankers. If they were a single seat person then sometimes they ignore you completely. Funny when you're PM and you do the preflight checks and then watch the Capt do the same exact preflight checks. I tested the radar and the PWS went off. We laughed about it. Not 2 min later he checked the radar and it went off again. I laughed even harder.
Next time he goes to use the bathroom just lock him out...
Oh, wait!

And don't forget to add the 15% we get added to our DPSP from the profit sharing payout. If it was a "bonus", we wouldn't have to pay dues, but we wouldn't get the 15% DPSP. I view that as a good thing. How do you view it?

But then I realized we'd have to endure watching all of these airplanes taxi around with the turn signals on for no reason.

I criticize them a lot and I think there's plenty of room for improvement, but there's no other credible organization that could do the job any better.
Regarding the dues question however:
I view ALPA National the same way Ronald Reagan viewed the government.
Simply put, its too big and it spends too much.
$215 million last year. That's a pretty big chunk of change for that office up there.
When I study the LM-2, I see a lot of stuff that we maybe could do without.
Top of the list -- the small army of lawyers we employ. They are bleeding us dry.

I ditto that statement!!
When we first starting flying the B747 on the TLV route, many of our NYC Pursers were former PanAm. Usually they began the briefing with how glad they were to be back on a 747.
I certainly don't want to take away from the great service ALL of our cabin staff provides, but their expertise was nice to watch.
All the best,
OC

I view it as ALPA national making a money grab (ok, stealing), with 1.9% of our profit sharing being redistributed to ALPA, never to be seen by Delta pilots again.
