I live 120 miles from the airport. I know I will never accept a GS that is within 2 hours from award to report. Sure, they will hold the flight, but it is a pain in the butt for me plus someone else will make it sooner than I can. I just throw in 2 hours because I know I will most likely never accept one of those anyways.

If there are more trips in open time than reserves on the reserve availability list, they will most likely cover those trips with GS's. Another thing you have to look at nowadays is the number of guys on the reserve availability list that are on their first day of reserve. They can't give those guys anything before 10AM so count them out for all the trips in the pot that report prior to 10AM.

Before you use that to bid I would double check the date.

I've had very good luck with the S-3B, including FC both ways to Zurich & London. Naturally, it helps if you pick a slow time of year and watch the loads carefully. Consider buying a refundable ticket on another airline as a backup.

Exactly; if Delta Connection people can romp all over the planet as S3Cs then it's doable, it's just not as easy.

I felt for a Captain I flew with the other day, he had just opened and drank a beer after yard work. Scheduling called with a "how quickly can you get here" $4000 GS.

He said it was a $4000 beer.

To call it a $4000 beer means he puts no value on his time at home. I feel sorry for people like that.

*shrug* You could say that about anybody who goes to work and doesn't live on the largess of others. I'd rather be compensated double @ captain's pay than minimum wage at McDonalds.

I had one a few months back where I was hoping for a GS day trip and sure enough scheduling called. I was ready. My phone wasn't. It would not register my finger sliding across the screen to answer the call. Nothing I could do would make it work.

I missed the call. Finally got it to work within a few seconds and called back. By the time I got to a scheduler the trip had been assigned to someone else.
