I'm not directing this towards you I'm just using your quote to bring up a point. Our sick time does not have year over year value for many reasons. One of them is that there is no benefit to flying sick. Saving it for later. If you need any meds in order to feel good then you are sick. If you are sick then call in sick.

Exactly, my bud at Jet Blue couldn't get a xmas redeye for years despite being in the top 200 cause it pays 1.5 time on the holiday, thereby going senior on purpose.

Right now, at DAL senior people (who don't even mind flying the holiday) bid around holidays and wait for a GS to drop. Junior people are forced to move heaven and earth to try and be home on xmas day with the kids and if they do work, it's for straight time.
If we had holiday pay, those trips would more than likely get put on senior folk and at least the ones forced into flying on the holiday against their wishes would also get a bonus.
Holiday manning solved.

You'd think from Bucking Bar's posts that this was an example of DALPA doing the work of the pilots and bottom up representing wouldn't you? You'd be wrong. Here is the resolution that was passed unanimously at the ATL LEC meeting:

-------------------------------------------------------------

Resolution: Ballot Confirmation

WHEREAS the pilots at Delta Air Lines desire to see the individual results of each vote cast, and

WHEREAS the members would like to view the votes on a single document accessible to all members, and

WHEREAS the membership would like to remain anonymous during and after the voting process,

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the pilots of Delta Air Lines would like the following changes to the electronic voting system now used by ALPA for Section 6 tentative agreement ratification.

The master list of eligible voters will be published and made available to the membership.

When the electronic vote of each member is cast for that voting event, a random six-digit number, or similar anonymous code will be assigned to that member at the time that the vote is cast.

Members who do not cast a vote will likewise also be issued a random six-digit number, or other anonymous code for their "did not vote status" which may be e-mailed to them after the voting window closes.

Once the voting is complete, all members can see the master list of votes cast.

Each member can find their randomly generated confirmation code and vote associated with it, therefore confirming that his or her vote was properly processed during the vote count.

BE IT FURTHER RESOVED, that the pilots of Council 44 direct the Council 44 representatives to submit this resolution at the next regularly scheduled MEC meeting.

Maker: Johnson
Second: Kyle
Amendment: Dilbeck
Second: Davis
Amendment: Passed
Resolution as Amended: Passed

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good resolution that would have gone a long way for this MEC's credibility. But this is the edited version that the MEC actually passed:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WHEREAS some Delta pilots have expressed a desire for more involvement and confirmation in the balloting of collective bargaining agreements.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED the Delta MEC directs the Delta MEC Chairman to use the necessary resources to review current membership ratification balloting procedures and to investigate possible enhancements to promote increased pilot involvement and participation in the balloting and confirmation process, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the MEC Chairman will report his findings to the Delta MEC.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yup, that's the resolution. Complete rewrite making the original meaningless - yet it allows the Bucking Bar's and the other DALPA guys around here to claim that it's democracy at its finest.

This is the problem folks. Right here.

You have to give them credit for the quick deadline.

Not.

True statement. I originally had a trip landing on Xmas at noon. Traded that for a redeye turn where I now land Xmas Eve at 0100 and will walk in my door to catch Santa in the act around 3A. I had a 70+ line bid to try and get Xmas off for my two little ones. As I look now Greens are dropping like flies. Some mid pack guys are getting G2 now.

Great idea for next contract!

I see you and Carl are participating in the airing of grievances where you tell how we have disappointed you. Per tradition we look forward to your feats of strength where you challenge your wife, or child, to wrestling.

Happy Festivus.

The irony and unwitting contradiction within Carl's post makes me laugh :-)

It's difficult for even you to see examples of how our MEC administration handles attempts at "changes from within." Thus your attempt at humor.

Look forward to the new year where you'll crow about our bottom up democracy while ignoring the obvious. Is the sense of belonging really worth the price you're having to pay Bar?

So right when it I needed the Airway Manual the most today the efb said cannot view this document. Went to the paper backup. Been messing with it tonight and can't seem to get it to fix. Anyone else having this problem?

Yep, I worked at JetBlue and have been saying this ever since I got here.

Holiday pay is a win win for everyone. Company gets trips covered much easier, senior guys with no kids who want to work get trips at premium pay without "hoping for GS's", junior guys who don't want to work get it off, and if you unwillingly have to work, you get paid premium pay which makes you feel better about it.

Christmas, New Years, Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, and Thanksgiving should all be double pay holidays.

Wish the me-too clause worked both ways between us and in-flight. They have holiday pay.
