Intellectual rant of the day ...
Why has human progress ground to a halt? ? Michael Hanlon ? Aeon
Examines why the rapid progress of 1945 to 1971 does not seem to happen today. Or, as Buzz Aldrin said, "you promised missions to Mars, I got Facebook instead."

That leaves the entire field to compete for a few spots a month for much of the year, even though we're hiring a lot.
The good news is the reasoning for how the numbers are shifted points to accelerated hiring to staff agressively for summer, possibly in excess of the original delivery plan. May or may not be more AC, but it appears it'll be at least the same number of AC sooner.
Look, I dig exploration and space tech for its own sake, but it takes BIG bucks.
Until it takes not so big bucks, or there is a promise of a huge payday for someone, robots will be getting all the glory. It took the promise of gold and riches to lure explorers to get into leaky boats, for months at a time.
16th century Europe make not have been as groovy as it is now, but it sure beat getting scurvy, eating crap food, drinking foul water, enduring brutal treatment, only to wind up sunk and forgotten on the far side of the world. So why did they do it?
Money.

A manned government mission to Mars right now is financially stupid, irresponsible and premature. We can't afford to simply say "space = innovation = ROI = awesome progress" and pull the trigger on anything and everything just because its cool. I'm in favor of continued space exploration, big time. But blowing that much money on a manned mission right now is stupid. We will learn way more spending way less by investing our limited dollars on unmanned missions and satellite telescopes than we would ever learn with a bloated debt tumor budget putting a human on Mars right now.
My dad was a pharmacist and owned his own pharmacy for 30 years. He sold his business and put his money with a neighbor of my sisters. This F-ing guy put my parents life savings in some high fee actively managed mutual funds that did ok but gave the broker the biggest commissions. My dad is back to work part time, because he should have been in safer investments than growth stock mutual funds in retirement

With about 300 retirements likely to occur in 15 that means about 300-500 in actual list growth.
36 717's
24 739's
4 .333's
being delivered, 4 744's parked offset the 333's.
60 mainline aircraft deliveries.. 6 crews per bird would be 12 x 60 = 720 pilots needed.
720 + 300 = 920
I bet we end up closer to the 966-1000 in 2015 again when it's all said and done, but there's only "authorization" for 125/mo through march.
Total WAG napkin math on this.... I'm probably way wrong.

The bad thing about that is we will miss out on a lot of top tier applicants next year because a significant majority of those 50 will be no interview flows and SSP/EtD/whatever its called this week.
That leaves the entire field to compete for a few spots a month for much of the year, even though we're hiring a lot.

Either way though things should balance out soon as the last of the CPZ flows occur in the coming year and a half or so. Mesaba flows are done. EtD is done (lol) and hiring in 2016 and beyond shows no sign of tapering.
