VA LOA latest
Received an email from Council 20 (DTW). After reading their email, I have three big beefs with the LOA about to be voted on:
(1) Apparently the MEC will not allow us (the rank and file membership) to see the current flying levels that set the baseline numbers from which this LOA will be based. So even though the LOA provides a future percentage (based on number of ASKs) we don't know where we are starting from. So are the new percentages a good deal or bad deal? Hard to tell (unless I'm missing something).
(2) Why won't the MEC agree to formally publish the TA prior to the vote? My LEC reps say the MEC claims they'd have to do "roadshows" if that happens. Really? Send out some talking points with all of the facts laid out and let us decide!
(3) As others have stated, the LOA seems to allow for the company to be out of compliance every other years. I know this was hashed out by some here as of late, but I can't believe we are letting this happen without more of a fight. Unacceptable. I'd much rather see a penalty in place should the company once again violate the JV balances we've agreed to. And I don't want to hear "we'll grieve it when that happens . . . ".
Good work Council 20. You seem to be the one LEC who still stands up for the rank and file pilot!

Do you know what else is quaint? Sending your training letter in the U.S. mail! I have to be at training next week and there's no letter, it's probably lost, or mixed up over the Thanksgiving holiday, and I have to leave town tomorrow. So far, I've managed to pull up the sim schedule, read the FOM training section, and booked my flights, but I have no idea what hotel I'm staying at because it's so super secret that it's not on Icrew, but I'll bet it's in the letter! I've called and emailed the planner, going to try again, but may just end up getting on a hotel van and looking for room at the inn...
Me looking at the mailbox today...

Quick rundown, generally all our current hotels in SA are very nice, much nicer than Europe. Workout rooms are adequate, nothing to brag about. Hotels all give either free or very cheap breakfast, except GRU.
UIO- 2 man, now mixed in with domestic because of too much credit. Very long van ride, nice hotel. Local food is good. Only been once, didn't check out the workout room.
LIM- on the 400 now, but will probably come back. Most painful redeye in the system. Good food and shopping.
SCL-great food and wine, nothing's a bargain. Great hiking location. Easy grocery shopping.
GRU-can be a very long bus ride depending on the traffic. Better than average workout room. Groceries close, some great crew restaurants.
EZE-all you can drink champagne at breakfast. Weak workout room. Great exchange rate. Excellent food and wine. Yes, the steaks are as good as everyone says.
BSB-17.5 hours of credit in about 36 TAFB. Not much else to say. Efficient and boring. Pretty much zero workout room, but good public park and weather for a quick workout.
Never been to bogota, I hear it's nice.

Thanks everyone, I was able to confirm a hotel today, I think my letter was lost in the mail. It'd be nice if they had the option to just email it all to you. For initial school, they don't put anything on your schedule, just that you're in training. See y'all on VA Ave!

The only reason they'd have to do road shows, assuming we can all read English, is if something...or everything, has to be "sold" to us.
Why do I constantly feel like our union is headed up by a bunch of used car salesmen who think they are smarter than we are?
I'm insulted if they still think they know what's best for me without my input.

When did they start doing that? I dh once on a 767-400 and it was just two-man.
I flew it once on the ER--I vowed never to again. I liked flying to S. America, because I could sleep easily on the airplane. but LIM was not only a 2-man, 7 hour redeye (same as ANC-ATL), but the most brutal part is the fact that it doesn't land until 9am! While all the rest of the S. America and Dubai crowd are landing while it is still dark, around 0530-0600 or so, the LIM flight has you staring into the sun for 2-3 HOURS before finally landing.
I never have figured out why network has that flight arriving so late.

What's funny (to me at least) is we still use vernacular from when Crew Scheduling was in the pilot lounge and used color coded slips of paper to assign rotations.
Today a Green Slip is still a Green Slip. Does anyone remember when they used to do it that way?
Challenge: If anyone can find a picture of a Green, Yellow or White slip and post it I will give you this new car as soon as one of my fetching associates gets it washed.

I have a question regarding our investment options in our 401K, for you fellow investment guru's/traders out there. I'm starting my end of year financial house keeping and I was about to evaluate the costs/fees associated with the index funds offered in the 401K. I don't invest in the actively managed funds, just the S&P, emerging markets, international, and small-mid cap index funds...the rest of my savings is in the brokerage link.
Has anyone compared ALL of the costs/fees on our index funds to make sure they are competitive to other index funds out there? I have found a few web sites that will evaluate the funds your company provides to see if the fees are reasonable compared to other funds. I was going to work on it this week but I thought I'd try the easy way first...ask my APC brothers and sisters first.
The funds Fidelity offers us are limited, but the brokerage link makes up for this and is a huge benefit. I'm not sure, but for some reason I thought the funds were custom tailored to our program so I don't even know if I plug in the symbol for our S&P index fund, if it is going to show up on some other web sites evaluator program.
If I don't hear anything by tomorrow afternoon, I'll be happy to run our funds through the ringer and report back. Even if some of you guys have done the work, a second opinion wouldn't hurt.

767-400 rotations to LIM have been 3 man since early November. Go pull the crew pairings for the flight down on the day of your choosing in iCrew. 2 rotations, an A/B and a B only. No idea why they made the switch and didn't do it previously on the ER that way, but I'm glad they did overall. Hopefully it stays that way.
