In my opinion, this was another problem with CDO's. What happens with one when no one wants it? It goes to a reserve. It's not right to dump this on a reserve who has no say about it. For some of us, reserve is not a choice.
I'm still a strong no. If a reserve can refuse the assignment with no penalty, that would be an improvement.
I spoke with a LEC rep, not mine. He said that the reason the CDO question was even on the survey was to mollify a small, vocal group that was in favor of them. DALPA was hoping for a strong no response. If the got they got a strong no response, they could tell the vocal group to pound sand. He said the Company didn't want them, but would take them it they could get them.
I told the rep that we had already risen up and spoken against them with a roar. If this information is true, this minority lobbying for CDO's needs to go away.

I still don't understand why the company wouldn't want it, it's a good deal for them... which is probably why they wanted them.

Brain trust question...
Going to Germany/Europe with the family in a few weeks. Which rental car company do we get the best discount with?
Is it still beneficial to make the reservation in the states for pickup over there or does it matter anymore?
We are going to Garmisch/partenkirken for 5 days then Salzburg for another 5.
Open to input from anyone who has gouge on those places and that area.
Gonna get fat on schweinhoxen and augustiner pils (not the Munich stuff, the Trappist stuff in Salzburg). Gonna work it off mountain biking. Yeah!

On the way to Salzurg there's a fantastic MWR facility on a lake just outside. We stayed there for a few days and then went into Salzburg. Very nice sampling of the countryside and then the city. The beer is awesome everywhere!
I don't get it. If it's a strong vocal minority and everyone at DALPA knows its a small minority, why then was the NC putting it into the last LOA? Especially if the company "didn't want it."
I still don't understand why the company wouldn't want it, it's a good deal for them... which is probably why they wanted them.

1. Allow CDO's.
2. Create a bid sub-category called "I wanted CDO's."
3. Any CDO's not specifically bid would cause a PBS shuffle and be inversely awarded to pilots in the "I wanted CDO's" sub-category.
4. Once awarded, CDO's could not be dropped.
5. If sick call occurred for a CDO, it could only be covered by a pilot in the "I wanted CDO's" sub-category.
6. If a CDO ever had to be cancelled due to unavailabilty from the "I wanted CDO's" sub-category, CDO's would cease.

Unlike you FTB I'm all about making people happy. So here's how we make the strong vocal minority happy:
1. Allow CDO's.
2. Create a bid sub-category called "I wanted CDO's."
3. Any CDO's not specifically bid would cause a PBS shuffle and be inversely awarded to pilots in the "I wanted CDO's" sub-category.

To be fair and balanced though, there was definitely a huge failure at the MEC level to not communicate to the wider pilot group that they were actually negotiating these things. There was no reason to keep the CDO's a secret.
Thankfully there were enough guys paying attention at the ratification meeting to get the word out the day before the MEC voted.
If it wasn't for this forum we would have CDO's in our contract right now.
