What Jam were they in? Training 25 displaced pilots? Now they avoid that but have to train 25 replacements for the non 747 guys. There was no jam, even with the 4 aircraft going next year it's a non issue. They had to train for the increased A330 flying anyway. This forum can sure manufacture a crises out of nothing.

Because, it rarely happens, I'd like to take this opportunity to agree with sailing.

It seems to me that getting people to leave early should be the goal for everyone.

I agree. What jam? I would have thought it would have made more economical sense for Delta to displace the 744 guys (before the fence expires) to the A330 where they need pilots anyway. There would be no cascading waterfall.

I bet that less than 20 take the deal...they've got a great view as the lead dog and are at the top of the industry in the left seat of a fenced 747-4.

I remember during my furlough recall indoc when Kolschack said that training was a fixed cost so they might as well use it. He then gave us a 4-day requal into the 737-200 after flying the Maddog for 18 mos prior to furlough. Guess it was legal since I had flown the 73N within 35 mos on 9/11. I knew that there were still 1290 on the street so I welcomed the opportunity to excel.

Anyway, if the goal is to actually motivate senior whale captains to retire, then displace them and train them on a lower paying twin and we'll see how motivated they really are.

Jmho..

My Brother; You are a genius and I can never ever be up to PAR with your smarts. But I will tell you this; HA and AK are not of the same value or level as DL or NWA. In my honest opinion, HA and AK are Second Tier Airlines. You can never make me believe or convince me that their pilots come ahead of us. NEVER. Im not being arrogant. This is the truth. HA is a debt ridden, heavily leveraged and subsidized airline (ALoha, Go etc.) while AK has grown and flourished because of our neglect on competition and the subsidies of the state of ALaska (Both NWA and DL handed over Alaska the routes).

AK and HA are second tier. My saying this is not out of arrogance, but of truth. If you take a historical snapshot, you will see that many of their pilots had their apps in at NWA or DL. I will give you two or three names at least that will verify this.

If we are buying, they should be stapled. Greedy on my part. However, in reality, it is for my brothers. Im set, dont need the $$ or seniority.

Dont sell yourself short. You work for a TOP TIER AIRLINE.

Respectfully always,

TEN
I would love to see how you rank your tiers of airline companies.

I rank them by where I would want to go Dont get your panties in a bunch.

We can turn "blue" in the face and argue but Alaska is not on the same tier as Delta. Plain and simple.

Knowing this and putting emotions aside, I think Alaska is a good company.

Actually, it's not. If either of you tow would bother to ask your reps, you could see the language. Mine offered it to me in the lounge, but I am sure neither of you even bothered with something that is a little more difficult than simply whining about it on here.

That being said, I agree with what you wrote below.

The 747 guys that would otherwise be displaced get to hold onto an airplane with artificially created seniority, and the non 747 guys will get a nice check upon their normal retirement date. Great deal for them, but means bupkus when the 757s are retired and I get bumped due to that. I say displace 'em, make 'em go to training, and the sooner the better because the remaining viable fence comes down in 4 months.
