You know how much I dislike Moak, but I'm willing to admit that I was wrong when I was wrong.
It's not the least bit of hyperbole Clamp and you know it. If Moak didn't mean what was attributed to him by Bloomberg, then let him change ALL of our minds with the same explanation he gave Erdude32. You can't possibly be saying that you're OK with what Moak said now that a Facebook friend tells you what Moak said.

Lets work off of that.

Lets see:

How many pilot groups are in mediation? Plenty!

Does it prove wise to state that their bargaining positions are anything but rational? Nope.

Would or could it hurt their progress and eventually ours if the President of ALPA made any statements that would make it sound like we are anything but rational? Nope

Do you think Linda reads Business Week? Yep.

How much does the contract history state our cost per seat mile is?

What sort of raise would we get if we went to 2.00-2.05 lead to?

Might be surprised at those answers.

Sure it is.

It was enough to take me from hardcore against Moak to standing a more middle ground.

Maybe he's gonna do just that. A print publisher has never misused or misquoted anyone eh?

Question.
How are new hires and probationary pilots handled in regards to DPA and/or DALPA? We were talked to by DALPA, but no mention of DPA. Are new hires and probationary pilots off limits from DPA?

The DPA are just "attempting" to become the represenation of DL pilots (it'll likely never come to a vote, though). They are not the official representation of DL pilots, therefore DALPA is the only one that talked to you.

You can seek them out and put in a card if you like, though.

Oh now you've done it... The DALPA guys are going to be foaming at the mouth.

Somebody else probably has more first hand knowledge about this subject than I do. Basically, as I understand it, DALPA has access to new hires because they officially represent us. DPA doesn't have that kind of access.

I've flown with several new hires who have asked me about DPA. My advice to them is to stay away from it publicly. The company is VERY pro DALPA and takes a very dim view of anyone who doesn't support DALPA. And why wouldn't they? DALPA has helped them drastically cut pilot costs and keep those costs drastically cut for almost a decade now!

My advice is that I don't think DPA is something a new hire needs to get too closely associated with while still on probation.

I think there's a website a NW pilot did on that looks at our seniority via base and fleet. I think its EZ....? Does anyone know?

Then ask yourself this...What did Moak say to him that changed his mind? Maybe something like: "I have no intention of running for ALPA president?"
