Disgusted Disbelief. I haven't trusted him since 2007 when he told me in person unequivocally that he was NOT running for ALPA National President. He is a two faced political liar and a hack. This little PR stunt and tour on Wall Street on OUR dime is nothing less than a treasonist act against the Pilots who are paying HIS salary. I'd like to see him recalled immediately so he can't even finish out the last few months of his term. Hopefully that would at least "un-grease" the skids of whatever job he's bought himself post ALPA at our expense.
Please burn up the phone lines, crash the ALPA switchboard and voice your opinion on his comments.

Without clarification, the recall sounds prudent.

Not sure but I think any recall attempt must start at the LEC level via a resolution.

Our flying over the Atlantic has trended up ever since we bought PanAm. The ER you talk about in NY almost exploded in growth since 91. Part of that increase was adding domestic flying that you mention. The drop in international flying is mostly because post merger the company has moved that flying to other equipment. The 330 and 747, 767-400 have taken many high block hour routes including FCO, ATH, TLV, NCE, VCE ect.. In addition we lost Kiev, Amman and Cairo for rather obvious reasons. Just those 3 routes were a massive loss on block hours. Add in TLV going to the 747 and NYC lost 3 over 12 double crewed flights. Routes that were dropped altogether like Budapest have not seen a rush of airlines clamoring to serve the market. Overall our international departures out of NYC are probably near if not at all time high for Delta in the summer. Winter might be down but not that much.

Aren't we holding elections in October?
How do we know he was correctly quoted, or quoted in context?
The proper procedure is for the MEC Chairman to request an Executive Board Meeting. You could lobby your Rep to lobby his MEC Chairman, but really, that is not happening over a magazine quote that might not even be exactly spot on correct.

You're right, it's like the definition of "is."

Let's assume Lee Moak has pulled one over on the airline pilots of this country and is using ALPA to gain favor with airline management for personal gain. Let's take it a step further and say he has manipulated the voting at the Delta LEC level and stacked the MEC and negotiating committee with his minions who want to see Moak get a cushy job in Washington and hope to ride his coat tails to the good life. Let's say they all work together to negotiate an inferior contract on behalf of Richard Anderson himself.
How are they going to convince 50%+1 of 12,000 pilots to ratify the inferior contract?
How are they going to keep DPA from voting ALPA off property and putting them out of business at the same time?
I'd vote ALPA off property in a minute if I thought it wasn't acting in our interests. You play nice until you have a reason not to play nice. If management thinks there is value in labor peace you make them pay for it. I'd prefer to take my labor peace payments incrimentally over time but if negotiations aren't going were we want them to go it could be cashed in for a lump sum payment (pickets, strike vote, statements to the press). If we cash it in now it will be worth nothing since we haven't even started negotiations.
I could be wrong about our strategy. I'm willing to see what happens and change directions midcourse if it looks like we aren't being represented properly. I don't see much to gain by changing course now other than feeling like we are tough. I don't care much about feeling tough, I care about getting paid.
