I'm a perfect example of what will happen if 747 guys get displaced in the beginning of next year. (Since the company has already stated it won't happen before then.)
I would get displaced and then have reinstatement rights when the 4 new 330 position bids start coming down the pike next spring. Why do they want to train me and then have to retrain me... Two training cycles that can be avoided and make everyone happy...................hopefully.....

You are assuming any of them want to go early. And why would they? But supposing you are right, why would WE want to fund that? Since it would... as you say... save the company a boatload of coin.. it would be incumbent upon them to take care of it. Our participation in its' creation would not be necessary.

I think the PERP would be a good idea, if in fact the aircraft are not coming back from the lessor, however not sure saving the company a boatload of coin ever translates in a win for the pilots long term. After 30+ years...I tend to be a little jaded! JMHO

The cost savings may or may not translate to "monetization" by the pilot group. The early retirements and lack of displacements certainly would. Hence a win for all.

Going to a new plane and haven't done the shadow bidding thing. Is the strategy to still bid as much as you can during the training (then it gets released)? Also, new pay rate doesn't happen until you are converted, correct. I am supposed to end training on the 10th of Oct, training starts in Sept. Thanks.

Here's a good explanation posted earlier.
Shadow is the amount of time the company is estimating you will be done with the sim, but not yet OE'd, therefore unqualified to actually fly a trip.
The general gouge is cram as many trips or RSV days into your shadow period as possible. Any trips awarded in your shadow period will be put on your line for construction purposes, and then immediately put back into the pot, to be awarded to someone junior to you (or left in open time.) In short, you will get paid to not fly these trips. If/when they call you for OE and it falls within your shadow period, then you will receive the greater of the trip you fly or the one they dropped.
Use something like:
AWARD Trips IF Depart on SEP 4 - SEP 14
Then do the rest of your bid...
Hopefully a good majority of your trips will be awarded during this period. Same strategy applies for RSV bidding.
The pay stacks on top if they don't get to you, and you end up doing your OE on days off after the shadow. I bid max credit in April and got a ~80 line. All of the trips touched the shadow and were dropped/paid (thanks FAR 117.)
Then I ended up doing OE near the end of the month on days off resulting in 110+ hours of pay for flying 2 3-day trips! It definitely pays to stack your days off after the shadow and then "volunteer" with the OE planner to do your OE AFTER the shadow.
This was when they were backed up on the 717 in the winter/early spring so YMMV. Happy Bidding.

Well that is what I was trying to understand. If you are suggesting that WE fund any ind of early retirement plan, then you and I have nothing to discuss. If you are suggesting that the company might offer something and that some might take it( which I highly doubt will amount to any significant number) then we might be on the same page. As far as every man having a price, I agree, but I don't think the company will get anywhere near what it will take to get rid of any of the top players. They got it waaaaay too good to leave.

Thanks, but what about the month prior to starting training. IE start on the 10th with training for the rest of the month, how would I bid for that? Nothing is on my September PBS schedule, but I got a heads up in icrew for training.
looks like 20 days of training in September, ALV is 80 in Sept for my current category. Thanks

1. Bid like normal for the month that you start training and whatever you bid gets dumped thats conflicts or
2. Get credit for training and have to bid something on remaining days off to get near the window?
