Yesterday was an eye-opener for sure.
I think we need to face facts. Whatever we've been doing to try and preserve our international widebody jobs isn't working. Those jobs are continuing to go away despite our various contract sections and LOAs.
Now Dickson wants to "engage the association" yet again to deal with more displacements off the international fleet.
Every time we engage, we end up worse off.
Maybe its time to disengage. Instead of re-writing our contract whenever management needs something, why don't we try enforcing what we've got?
I am tired of my union being "off the table". (to quote our CEO)
We need to get back in the game.

You are a smart guy, and I am sure that your logical process accompanied with the MEMO by Dickson yesterday will lead you to the conclusion that something like this does not happen in a vacuum. I suspect that more will be happening in the coming weeks and months. Some may be good, some may not be good, but this is a first mover. If you have listened to anything RA has been stating in the last few months, the realignment of the NRT flying has been getting a lot of airtime, and the whole process as been accelerated.
IMO, more is coming and we do not need to freak out quite yet. You do not hold 25% of the most senior category in place for six months with the only thing on the order books being 4 330 deliveries next year.
Here's a little nostalgia for ya:
And now I know why we didn't ever get the Concordes.. the lavs don't work.

[QUOTE=tsquare;1696282]Well, first of all, the union guys will say that we are not out of compliance... yet. But we will be. The question is how to make us whole without selling those jobs for money. I do not have a good answer for that.
How about adding one day of vacation, for all pilots, effective the first day of violation, per week of violation? Each week that DAL has not been in compliance, more time off.

And if not enough leave?
Realistically, the senior Captains are getting plenty of vacation, fly good trips and can drop their trips if they want time off.
Why would they leave so they can buy their own insurance and take a 100% paycut?
Sure - I bet Delta will give them as an early out 6 months of pay or so, maybe $20K in medical. But like George in Seinfeld said, "if I stay, I get it all" - 12 months of pay a year and subsidized medical.

10 B773s x 30 pilots + 58 A330s x 25 pilots per plane = 1750 new pilots.
That's like 900 new Captain positions.
