I was flying with a Captain today and he said something to me that is rather profound, DALPA is a Captains union, dont ever confuse that and if you need proof look at C2K. Great pay, relax scope. The pay was erased but the scope stayed relaxed.

So to all of the Captains on this board fighting for scope, thanks a million.

Second, how can the relaxation of scope ever be a good thing?

IMO, it can't under any shape or form either for us or for the majority of the regional pilots. The truth is to relax scope is to cost mainline pilots their jobs and cause regional pilots to remain in perpetual serfdom. If you fight for mainline jobs you fight for both groups, if you screw one and placate to get the necessary votes from the other in order to become ALPA national president then you screw both over.

...
And Satchip... hush.

I think to say DALPA kept us from being fuloughed is disenginious. The only people who I see repeatedly preach that they don't want to see furlough is Richard Anderson and Steve Dickson. It is my union that somehow keeps proclaiming that as a Delta pilot I don't want to fly rjs, which is bull ****. Fwiw, I'd fly a Dash 8-400 as an FO with pride if it was at mainline.

So if ALPA is going to claim that it is they who are keeping us from being furloughed then I'd like to remind them that it's the companys call to furlough and thanks be to RA and SD instead for keeping us thus far.

Now back to football and Carl, +1.

I agree getting pay raises when a company is not profitable is a challenge. A judge would also agree. Go to court/arbitration and that person will also say we should take less pay because the guys across the ramp are doing it for less. Take away that variable, through scope (both small/large jets) and they don't have that argument any more.
How do you make money on an outstanding contract when you no longer have any airplanes to fly. Small jets are gone. Next are the big ones. The United guys are dealing with that now!

Unless you are management, and then its called a "Bonus" and then you can get them by the millions, even when your company has been managed so poorly it is being saved from liquidation and being bailed out by the taxpayers.

You're right. DALPA has nothing to do with it. Tear up your contract and "forgot to bid" is in charge!

Good luck to us all. btw, I hope the pin is pulled on that ejection seat. You're gonna need it with your line of thinking!

Slow, I am glad the we have a working understanding with our counterparts in management. It is a great thing to have access to that information. I do not think that anyone argues that.
The angst comes from the fact that what you just typed has not been clearly communicated to the rank an file. If management has tha understanding on the loa's I am quite happy. Do we have it in writig? Is it in the notes from the jpwa discussions. As you know leaders change. Will the next ones be as warm to our position. It is not a slap and this team or the mec. They have dove a decent job given the times. I would love to think that the fact that we have not furloughed us because of the relationship. In the end it is cheaper to have the carrying cost than the flow an bad blood a furlough creates.

I know that all of the writers here, myself included want what is best for this group. If we had more candid discussions with our elected and appointed leader the knowledge base on both ends would result in decisions and opinions being what the group thinks.

You guys may be right about the fear but the information for the rank and file to make an informed decision is no there. Guys want some transparency and to have their opinions heard, and respected. The information I see you typing is a good place to start. Telling pilots they ate wrong with out a discussion as to why does not rally the troops.

If you are infact right when I am elected I will tell these guys why you ate right. That is all we want.

You might want to keep your east revisionism in check. The judge is going to make you pay dearly for your "brother" hood.

And please keep to your own threads on your anti-ALPA crusade, mousketeer!
Your above quote has accomplished nothing to counter my points made previously. I am anti-BS.

UPS and FedEx lead the industry (oops, their companies are profitable too). LUV's pay sucks (oops, profitable).
UPS and LUV are non ALPA pilots, they have their own union as does American Airlines.

I'm all for staying in alpa, but I think there need to be some major changes done. It's become your standard political entity that claims to be bottom up and "taking it back." Look at the way they touted the Pinnacle TA... how embarrassing. Big mustaches, big hats, big egos...not much more than hot air, though when it comes to contract negotiations.

I mean..seriously. "here, you can keep the extra 76 seat RJ's..... can we have a no furlough clause?" My jumbo case of toilet paper that I got from costco yesterday is worth more...

All I've seen in post 9/11 ALPA are people taking paycuts, pensions cancelled, scope erosion, and age 65. All while touting "hey we don't suck as much as ___."

Anyways...back to slowplay's holier than thou quips.
