Now your sales point is that ALPA was just doing the pilots bidding!?!?

Have to raise the BS flag on this one....

Is it possible that our guys actually won one for the old Gipper?

Wasn't it his memo that took us from 0500 to 1200 in the first place?

I agree. Today, the Company can put most, if not all, of those 30-hour layovers into a 4-day trip with 7+ hours of flying on the other 3 days. They don't simply because there's no financial incentive to. Between the CDO guarantee and the ADG, I suspect we'll see exactly that most of the time, thus creating zero credit time from either a CDO or the ADG.

And why would they put a third pilot on a flight that today is crewed by two, i.e., transcons?

Given the bullet point about 7:30 for a split duty period, I would assume that ADG does not apply to a split duty period.

There are plenty of four day rotations with a 30 plus hour sit that are hard time right now. There is zero incentive for the company to make all of these CDO's when they can build a hard time trip with no extra pay or credit.

On another side note, I looked at a few bases and on average 25% of the rotations do not hit 5+15 ADG.

There are three things in this letter that I don't like:
1. CDO's the company will find a way to abuse them.
2. Adopting the FAR FDP's currently it looks like our contract is more restrictive especially for the late night flying.
3. augmenting non ocean crossing flights. This is currently being flown by two crews (dinner and a movie flights) that is a loss of Captain positions.

A transcon round trip takes 4 pilots. 2 going out and 2 coming back. Plus a layover hotel.
They could do it with 3 and no hotel. But the jet has to have a legal rest facility.

I know many folks like the 30 hour layovers. It allows commuters to put two 4 days back to back and reduce commutes. I asked for several this month but didn't get any because I'm too junior (even though I'm 50% in category). One man's trash....

I'd hate to see CDOs replace these. I would NEVER attempt to bid one on my line. This is a big step backwards.

I think the message is being massaged very carefully to get the spin out there before the facts, because this is a tough sell. I had the impression you were sold on this deal from your very first posts. I just wish we were given the facts and no sales job. I don't like this at all.

Is there a block time limit on the CDOs?

We used to do them on short flights and they were not that bad as long as you knew they were going to happen. (ie not on reserve)

However any wrinkle and they became a nightmare....
