Did you see the irony of the "honored" on the avoid trips greater than 4 days?
I think you need to put all of your "avoids" before any "awards."

You need to put the credit you want, on the same line as the pairing length. i.e., "Award trips IF 1 day IF credit >5:14, and do that again on the next line for a 2 day, IF credit >10:30, then next line for 3 day if credit >15:45, etc.

ALSO...and this is very important, put your AVOIDS at the TOP, not after your awards. If you had put on the very first line, Avoid trips if >3 days, if daily credit <5:14, that will weed out all the 'crappy' 4 day, worthless trips, before your bidding even starts to award trips.

I always use about the first 5 lines of my bids for my AVOID bids, in order, worst stuff goes at the top. That way, when it finally starts to award you trips, it's only the 'good trips' that are left, and if it does go into denial mode, the very worst stuff will be the last stuff to be put on your line.

Remember, you should always tell it what you DON'T want, FIRST! That way, if/when it does go into denial, it will try to build you a line with the stuff you do want, or at least don't mind as much, vs. all the crap you don't want to fly.

Thanks nw and Timbo! That makes perfect sense. So we can combine the trip length and credit on one line?

After 7 years of having absolutely no choice of what I'm getting when it comes to holding a line, I'm not sure what to do with myself now!

I was on the initial PBS Quality Control Committee, until I got burned out. But I learned a lot about bidding by seeing the mistakes of others.

The number one guy in a category ended up flying a 3 day over Christmas!

Why? Well, he was lazy, and spoiled, an he didn't understand the system.

Being number 1, he always got exactly what he wanted, and on his December bid, he asked for 4 different 3 day trips, all of which he was awarded...BUT...the total time of those 4 trips did not put him above the 'threshold' for regular lines, and because he never said;

"Prefer Off Dec 24, 25, 26"

PBS awarded him a real POS 3 day on the 24th!

We called him to 'educate' him, and warn him about what he'd done to himself, but there was nothing the QC Com. could do to 'fix it' for him.

And when worse comes to worse, when I'm bidding a complicated vacation/holiday/anniversary/birthday type month, I still call the PBS guys to get a second set of eyes on my bids, just in case.

Neat, I go put the kids to bed and come back to answer. But I see great suggestions from Timbo (shouldn't you be on a boat ;-) ) and nw.

I should always be on a boat! But tonight I'm on my couch, watching Game 7, Bruins v Canadians...and my beloved B's are down, 1-0 right now, half way through the second!

I've got plenty of Torpedo's to get through it, but I do hope the B's can pull their heads out...

Ha!

Well, at least with my years of juniority I've got PCS freaking mastered. I'll just do my usual drop/swap routine for yet another month.

Thanks again, iaflyer, nwF16, Timbo and Dorfman!
