Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
Thank you for speaking out Denny.
Its much harder for the DALPA guys to just dismiss your views the way they do with Purple and the rest of us well known agitators.
When DALPA sees that they are losing credibility even among the "moderates" in our pilot group then maybe they will finally take some action.
These 117 "negotiations" are an embarrassment. Management unilaterally rewrites our contract and then just stiff-arms the union in endless negotiations and we do nothing about it. Looking weak and helpless is not a very good way for Donatelli to start his administration.
Management is playing us like a violin. Pull out of these sham negotiations and file the grievance.

The problem with a grievance is that DALPA can just sit on that too.
The administration has to push for a resolution or that can drag out just as long as the negotiations.
I'd just like to see some sign of a little fight left in DALPA. Its been many years now.
I don't think management worries about us anymore. They just do whatever they want.

No kidding. And since the cabin cleaners are the critical path to a quicker turn, having the 2L door probably takes 5-10 minutes off of a typical turn around. What I find surprising as well is that the airlines haven't made more of a push for it's rebirth. I guess it's a big picture thing...
The same can be said for DALPA. They continue to ignore the problem--the one they created--label 5800+ fellow pilots as "scourge" and "pretenders," while doing business as usual, attacking all who dare say there are problems. If they simply REPRESENTED the pilots. It's really that simple.

swapping with the pot
I just don't understand why we can't swap with the pot for a trip that is the same day trip, similar value, and over the same days as the one I have just because "reserve days are capped".
If you find an answer, you'll have uncovered the secret of the ages, a riddle than has plagued Deltoids since the dawn of time.

Ed,
The answer is paranoia. Not the "Aliens are trying to monitor my thoughts - thus the tinfoil hat" type of paranoia but a more academic or managerial, if you will, type of paranoia.
When writing the code for i-crew it was reasonably to not allow trades or swaps that would negatively affect capped days. But what about days that are even with neutral swaps? Here is where the paranoia comes in.
Picture a tech guru writing I-crew code talking with a DAL management type:
Tech guy: "In writing this code we locked out swaps that negatively affect capped days like you requested, but what about neutral swaps? Should we allow that?"
Delta Guy: "What do you mean, neutral swaps?"
Tech Guy: "You know, a Pilot trading for a trip on the same exact days that has zero affect on coverage?"
Delta Guy: "Why would a pilot want to do that?"
Tech Guy: " I dunno, better trip, easier commute, lots of reasons I guess, but either way it does not affect capped days."
Delta Guy: "There must be some negative affect on manning that we are not seeing, I just can't see a pilot putting in for a swap that does not affect us negatively."
Tech Guy: "Maybe he just wants a better schedule and it really has nothing to do with manning."
Delta Guy: "I can see you never made it to Wharton - deny all neutral swaps! Now lets talk about that sick call algorithm we have been requesting."

I've been sitting voluntary reserve for the last couple of months. In my experience, the Company has done nothing to violate the contract. The trips I have been assigned have been assigned while I am on short call. They put me on rest after the assignment to make me legal. It's crickets while I am on long call.
While SD may have issued an obnoxious memo, he doesn't seem to be following it up with action. I think most of the violations took place in the first month of 117.
Understand, I am waiting for them to violate my contract. They haven't. If they want to give me a day off, cover the trip with a green slip and call me in for a carpet dance, so be it. I'm happy to take one for the team. Until they do it, there is nothing for me to grieve.
