I do OOBWS in ATL. I can hold a line in ATL but hold a better schedule in NYC. Here's your misconception- I have been called six times in the last three months where I did not answer the phone for an OOBWS. Of those a short call pilot was used four times and another pilot junior to me got an OOBWS. Not a single GS. was awarded when I didn't pick up the phone. Oh, and besides a better line, I never work a single holiday in NYC. Thanksgiving, I had Wed-Sat off, Xmas, I had 23-26 off. Thanks, I'll stay in NYC and OOBWS maybe one trip a month in ATL. Sitting in SRQ right now on an OOBWS, 10:30 credit, a little ove 3 block. Sorry if that ruined your greenslip dreams.
Any other ATL88B get 3 robo calls for IA last night around 0100? Wouldn't robo calls break the rest opportunity and therefore reset the 10hr clock?
100 in 28 necessitates the new sea state of thinking. Prospective rest gives us Ho's the GS opportunity.
I still can't (in my category) figure out why a guy would YS a trip. Its just dumb.
OOBWS is okay if a guy has to fill to the GS trigger to protect his previous GS.
What I've noticed though is that scheduling is adapting. GS's have slowed a bit.

OOBWS IMHO:
- - Commuting on your time, not the Company's dime
- - Deters the Company from adding staffing at the base you might want to bid in to
- - Deters the Company from hiring the pilots it needs to staff the network
- - Raises the expectation that pilots will DH for less than our current contract (free)
- - Raises the expectation that DH is not really duty, or work
- - Does take trips out of the system which might be assigned at premium pay
- - Is an abrogation of seniority
Although Scambo makes a great point above. I'd say "good" if a guy was needing to fill up his GS trigger.
