Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
Slow,
In general, I agree with what you say about a fully informed representative vs a one issue voter, but please be careful. As an old staff officer in the USAF, I know it's easy to fall into the "I know it all and you can't add anything I haven't thought of" trap when dealing with the great unwashed base level user

Good on you Ferd. We are past the 15Kmark on this thread. I feel really bad for the DAL hopefuls that will need to read this thing prior to their interviews in a year or two.
PS
Training took my trip and they (the man) actually let me sit time available from home. Who is this new company?
Do not hold your breath. You got lucky. When they take a trip they generally will try to Sec 23 you in to another trip.
Yeah,
Thats what they normally did to us too, throw ya crap off the open board no one would take. But, even without that, they would also make you sit time available in base (short call). This is a nice suprise, but you're right, I'm not holding my breath it will be that way next time.

It is something we need to address going forward as well. I do not think that a senior guy or a line holder should have to sit reserve if his trip is bought. They should get release. It is what they do at some of the regionals. None of this sitting reserve stuff.
thats what happened for us at ExpressJet. we could then pick up something else and maximize pay or just go home which is how it should be.
Can someone please explain in a nutshell the DAL commuter policy?
What if you are going to commute from a base that only has regional flights?

I would love see Delta start hiring again, I just have to say. I hope it happens before this thread reaches 50K. As a former Delta employee (FA) slugging it out at the regional level, I just wanted to thank all the people on this forum who keep me up to date. I too would love an "I've read all 15k of the the latest & greatest" sticker for my flight kit. Even more, I would rather have Delta manuals in my flight kit. For all those followers like myself on the outside hang in there. For the leaders of this thread a sincere THANKS. You probably don't realize how much your info and insights can help. Thanks again.
Commuting Policy
1. A commuting pilot is expected to arrive at his base with sufficient time and with adequate
rest prior to beginning scheduled duty.
2. A commuting pilot who is unable to report to his base as scheduled, due to an
interruption to his travel plans, will notify Crew Scheduling of his inability to report as
soon as possible. Crew Scheduling may, at its discretion:
a. deadhead the pilot (without pay or credit) to join his rotation,
b. place the pilot on his rotation when it transits his base (without a rotation guarantee),
c. remove the pilot from the rotation without pay, or
d. remove the reserve pilot from his on-call day without pay.
Note: Such day will be considered a non-fly day for purposes of
Section 23 S. 5. e. and 6. b.
3. A commuting pilot who travels to his base by air will not be eligible for treatment under
Section 23 Y. 2. unless he has attempted to travel on at least two flights (on and/or offline) that:
a. show adequate actual seat availability within 24 hours of the departure, considering
the pilot’s seniority and the normal load factor of the flight; or, on which the pilot has
a jumpseat reservation,
b. are scheduled to arrive at his base at a reasonable time before his scheduled report,
and
c. are separated by at least two hours.
4. It is expected that a pilot will avail himself of Section 23 Y. 2. on a rare basis.
5. A pilot who has demonstrated a pattern of inability to report as scheduled will be subject
to progressive disciplinary action.
6. If the FAA amends its policies to treat commuting time as a break in a pilot’s rest period:
a. this commuting policy will be canceled, and
b. the Company and Association will seek agreement on a suitable replacement for this commuting policy.
KC,
The above is a copy/paste of the commuting policy out of section 23 of the JCBA. Since it states "on or offline," I would think you would be okay as long as the rest of the policy is met.
