Nice! But I could have done without the first 14 minutes or so. The 15/16/18 all put on pretty good shows too. Heck, on my last xcountry in the AF I put my parents in the tower at Dobbins and did a formation take off with a quick climb clearance to 10k. That was in an F-4E. We had about 350 in full blower by the departure end and pulled straight up.

We are not going to be taking them early. They are going to be parked by SWA as well as about 10 of their 737-700's that will have to be modified with HUD's, interiors and paint. There will also be about 300-350 pilots being paid to sit around at that time. This all from a friend at Airtran.

Southwest is parking the remaining 717 fleet after 12/31/14, but it's due to the decision to retire the AirTran brand altogether. With that decision Southwest will have dozens of 717's parked until they go to the Delta system. Southwest is looking to mitigate the loss for parking the jets and would like Delta to take on more 717's quicker. I have not heard a peep about Southwest flying the 717's a day after the end of AirTran under any circumstances.

SWA is going to park the rest of the 717s by the end of the year…they want Delta to take them NOW…If I remember correctly, the fleet plan was to have them all on property by end of summer 2015. Apparently, there is a clause in the AT/SWA merger deal that if one is flying for SWA after Dec 31, all the 717 Airtran CAs must be paid SWA Ca rates…as well as all SWA FOs that can hold it….. Staffing them on the Delta side is the long pole in the tent…either way…all remaining Mini Dogs will not be flying for SWA after the end of the year.

Now back to your regularly scheduled lamenting...

The 717.... an airplane you get paid NOT to fly! I'd bid Airbus if I could make that happen with one of those...
