This has got to be one of the most arrogant things I have ever heard you say. Every airline that I have worked at or flown on has, except for an occasional grumpy crew, done this...
I would be a higher relative % on the 800 and have thought about going over there, but as soon as I do then the 320 will start moving. Right now, it would be better to be on the 737, no 5-days and looking at open time they have had better reserve coverage than the 320.
How many of you wear your hat when saying bye to the PAX?
I like being juvenile though.
I like to put my iphone next to my boom mic, blaring the opening music from Top Gun. I use my Donald Sutherland impression to give a complete description of the forces that will occur on takeoff followed by a short bio on the FAs, the weather, density altitude, and any famous people that live at the destination.
I flew with a guy who made you laugh without trying. He just did funny things and he had the accent and so forth to make it funnier.
My favorite was we got notified mid pushback in MCO about a delay going to LGA. Now prior to push he had been dealing with his son who had lost their dog and a neighbor had found the dog but now the 22 year old son was awol. He was frustrated but we continued normal ops. So as we're pushing he begins to make a PA about the delay. A long PA.
Then the phone rings with one of those old rotary phone ring tones at max volume. He wasn't going to answer. But evidently, he wasn't going to mute it either.
It rang. He kept talking. And rang. Talking continued. And rang. Still talking. Rang some more. Still explaining the nuances of EDCT times. Then voicemail.
On the outside I was looking at the floor is disbelief, on the inside I was...
He was a great guy to fly with, I'd fly with him any day. I'd even be his wingman if it didn't mean losing my certificates and job.
Well there are airlines out there now that not only say goodbye at the end, they say hello to everyone that boards, do welcome aboard PA's in the cabin, and walk the isles to talk to every passenger during any delay or IROP. Some delta guys do this, but probably less than 1%. Most say goodbye on every leg now unless it's lunch time or the last leg.

Yes I do.
It hides my mullet better, I can hide the bushy bangs and the tail in my hat.
I am confused why they would allow guys to go to the 7ER if they're planning on displacing it, unless, they are 80% sure they'll displace but in case the 20% happens (see DC9 for details) they don't want to get caught flat footed.
That's the only way I could explain that.

Best PA ever in LAX,

One more reason to hate the Seahawks and a man who wasted a great Stanford educTion.....

So all the ones that won't even convert until fall? That dog don't hunt, sorry.
Now they offer even MORE positions that won't even train until LATER in the fall that they will need to displace before they even hit the line? Definitely not buying what you're selling.
There are lots of guys moving off the top of the ER categories into NB CA seats and to "super premium WB" FO seats that are vacated by CA upgrades, and that schedule is going to continue to require CA's at the rate of 5.5 aircraft per month (at least 25 CA's per month) for the next two years.... NOT accounting for the additional 5 A330's coming in 2015 and the 5 A330's/10 A321's in 2016.
Crew planning is always going to take a more conservative public stance so they don't have to backtrack on estimates that get construed as promises.
Keep being a Debbie Downer though, it's good for your soul.

We can chat again late fall and see how it turns out. Cheers.
