So now, when my scheduler puts me on a DH followed by a 30 minute turn, my next flight takes a crew delay while I go to the curb to retrieve my gear?

The smoking hole that is DCI just got a few inches deeper.

I see how this can be a good idea but it has been very poorly executed by the company. We've been conditioning the traveling public since the nineties that the overheads are too small and they need to gate check and now all of the sudden the overheads maniacally grew and everyone is expected to bring their bags on.
Rant over, it's been one of those days...

That has got to be the most brilliant new policy I've seen. Don't forget to keep a smile on your face...Maintain an even strain.

I don't think a standard sized rollaboard fits in the overhead bin in those aircraft. This new policy is completely impractical for commuters and deadheads.

Will our backpacks will fit in the overhead bin? The ones RA ordered us to keep on. I wonder if we'd be disciplined for checking them.

Actually they do. I've done it a million times. Get down there early. Put your bag wheels first in the middle of the bin. You may have to pull down on the middle just a bit to wedge it in there. Once your past the lip just push it in the rest of the way while turning the bag 90 degrees. Your top handle is now in the middle of the bin for an easy grab on the way out.

Flight attendants and gate agents don't believe that they fit. The hardest part is walking on the plane with your bag and getting past the bag nazis.

88 planes for approx 88 planes, one for one/ month by month = replacement

88 planes for 88 planes parked during last 2-3 years = growth

Got it.

There are a couple ways to prevent this situation:
1. Put your bag in the overhead
2. If your bag can't fit make sure you have yellow crew deadhead tags on your bags.

They fit. XJT CR7/9 pilots put their bags in overhead. Even if they don't fit put DH tags on your bag and get it at the jetway when you arrive. I've done this for years DHing on mainline when they run out of overhead space
