I'll add one more thing. The fNWA guys like to talk about how great their manuals were. Newsflash: We had all that in DAL at one time. We had beautiful PRMs and POMs just like what you guys are describing. Color system foldouts... system descriptions... we had all that. Then we went thru the change. Just like you did when we merged. You didn't do anything that we hadn't done 5 years earlier. We had to figure out the Boeing manuals in all their incompleteness. Been there, done that. Unfortunately, money talks and we are stuck with what we have.
That was my point. Unless the captain does the walk around, programs the FMS and does everything associated with the preflight, he has to assume that his other crew members have performed their assigned duties. It has nothing to do with Sopa/Smac or whatever else you want to call it.
