Not ignorant at all, and I am not going into it on an anonymous webboard. I know what I know, first hand, and it is not as off base as you think.

I'll add one more thing. The fNWA guys like to talk about how great their manuals were. Newsflash: We had all that in DAL at one time. We had beautiful PRMs and POMs just like what you guys are describing. Color system foldouts... system descriptions... we had all that. Then we went thru the change. Just like you did when we merged. You didn't do anything that we hadn't done 5 years earlier. We had to figure out the Boeing manuals in all their incompleteness. Been there, done that. Unfortunately, money talks and we are stuck with what we have.
