Not disputing anything you said. My point was that the definition of their jobs appear to be at odds with Christian values.
I'm just pulling your chain PD, I get what you're saying. When it comes to stockholders or values the Christians get fed to the lions.

If capitalism is incompatible with Christian values, I would have to rethink Christian values.

Basically it boils down to what Paul wrote to Roman readers in Galatians, "For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: "Love your neighbor as yourself." "
Business leaders might try to rationalize that either workers are not "neighbors" or that like an over worked trauma Doc, they have to let some die to save others. Jesus' story of the "Good Samaratan" corrects these justifications by illustrating some basic facts:
- One is need
- One has the ability to help
- They are close to one another, enough to be aware
People who run businesses have choices, just as all of us do. I can not abide the idea that harming folks' careers with corporate shell games is in any way demonstrative of "loving your neighbor." It is not my job to judge. But, I would not make the decisions Delta's management have with regard to outsourcing.
The "Delta Culture" that management would so like to inspire us with does reflect back on "Christian Values." Isn't "we've got your back" a comitment to travellers that we will be the Good Samaritan? Wouldn't it be nice (and profitable) if every Delta employee loved our customers? But, these well meaning values are diluted by our Delta corporate reality which excludes some of our closest neighbors.

What's more compassionate; sustainable profitability or an egalitarianism that compromises profitability and sustainability?

That depends. Your post makes a bunch of assumptions. A good steward would seek balance (and we have good stewards here, IMHO). I do not believe outsourcing is necessary to run a succesful business ... is that what you are theying to state?
