Hey guys, I am about where you are too, feel the same way and await for the NYC displacement!

Now not to complain, but I think we are our worst enemy at times. I have been trying to get back to SEA for some time, but with no luck on this AE. On this last AE what got me were the 5 guys that got awarded the SEA 7ERB. Not counting the reinstatements, 4 currently hold the ER and live in their current base and the other is in the south, which to here is a 12 hr commute.

Now I do not know their stories, but I feel if they are to continue to live in one base and commute to another base, they are not helping the issues out west. As for the two that live in SLC and are going to commute to SEA, now I feel they are screwing the guys that are forced to commute to SLC from SEA. I have been told time and time again, that is the privlage of being senior. But I have another term for that, the FYBC.

As a 7 yr commuter, I hope to one day to be able to drive to work and not have to leave a day early and/or lose a day on the back end along with all the other commuting stresses. I wish commuting was a choice for me and I could move, but it is not. I just have a hard time understanding those that live in one base, are senior and choose to commute to another base. Is it for change of scenery? Please do tell!

PS- The snow is coming down here the Pudget Sound tonight. Looking like 4-6 inches But we will not shut down like ATL a couple of weeks ago

Daar31,

Advance the time lapse to noon and watch what happens when a roughly four hour rush hour tries to happen in 15 minutes. That will gridlock any city.

The problem wasn't the snow, it was the decision to run the schools to noon then suprise everyone with a "come pick up your kids." Unlike Seatle this is a once in 27 year event for Atlanta. We do not have the infastructure to deal with it and our low taxes reflect the reality that we do not waste public funds on stuff we do not need.

As for your bidding, Seattle has (and has always had) senior equipment, right? Hopefully we'll replace enough Alaska to put a NB base in. I'm sure folks are bidding there for WB + Asia. If it makes you feel better I just flew with a guy who lives in Alaska who commutes through Seattle to NYC ... chasing an A slot. Great pilot, we're glad to have him.

Darr,

I totally feel for you and hope you get back to SEA asap. Overall, I just don't see much relief for the next half decade at least for our group. With only 1200 retirements in the next 5 years we will still be 500 numbers from the most Jr. Capt. position in the company. At that point you will have to choose to commute to New York or not based on your age, career earnings and such. Regrettably most of the guys in our group will spend 21ish years as FO's (25-28 years to get back into SEA or SLC) And will never have the earning power to fund our 401K with adequate monies to reach our goals. 9 years as a capt.in a 31 year career is just to much to recover from financially.

I'm a little bitter having just come off a trip with a Capt who was very unhappy his 12 year upgrade, his $21000 profit sharing check, his $7000 a month pbgc payout, and his $1,600,000 401K, but he did say that the 5 extra years was really good for him. I almost puked.

Don't get me wrong, I'm ecstatic about the fact we're hiring even 300. But I'm tired of this ">300 I heard!" getting parroted around so often folks are starting to think it's true, without proof.

All of you jumping in here climbing all over the rumors and innuendo and assuming we are hiring anything more than 300... well, it seems the exact same to me as this un-ending argument on "2012 pitch said we'd be hiring by end of 2012!" No on ever officially said any such thing, but there was plenty of innuendo... and NOW you're all jumping on each other to point out how nothing OFFICIAL ever said we'd hire then.

Why then do so many of you keep claiming we're hiring more than 300??? This is the EXACT SAME sort of bogus claim of hiring that is not supported by official company statements we're all complaining about happening on the 2012 pitch!

I read everything from the company, voraciously. I'm like a hope-addict, they get me almost every month with something, though I seem to bid lower every single month. I know of two official statements by flight ops that say we're hiring 300. I know of three official statements by flight ops that say the furlough recalls ARE PART OF that 300. In fact, they specifically went through all the classes and showed how many would be filled by recalls and how many would be off the street to make up the balance of the 300.

Now, I've read 30 places folks claiming they've talked to a guy who knows a guy who says 600... But as all the ALPA guys have pointed out again and again on the C2012 "hiring now" interpretation--no one ever said anything official, and until they do it's unadulterated wishful thinking at best, and intentional misleading of the pilot group into seeing a rosy future that hasn't been committed to.

Now, prove me wrong please anyone--post a link to the EXACT spot of the exact OFFICIAL statement on DeltaNet showing more hires than 300. Not some "forward looking" statement by anyone not in charge saying they EXPECT hiring will continue. Fool me once, (C2012 we'll be hiring by year's end!") shame on me, fool me twice, shame on all of you cheer-leading this 300 hiring commitment into something bigger without proof. I'll be the first to cheer when I see something beyond 300.

Fair enough - You don't have to believe me. Lets just see what happens.

Not sure how to check these two rotations, they don't exist until Mar, and they rules auditor won't let me check. Can I back to back this rotation?
Day1 19:10 check in 4.53BL
Day 2 rest, 24.5 hour layover
Day 3 00:55 t/o to 07:28 land, 4.33BL.

So, can I land at 07:28 on Day 3, and get the same rotation taking off later that day at 19:10 check in?

I'm thinking it would give me 07:28 end of FAR FDP, to 19:10 is 11:42 rest, so that would be good. I'm confused on what the PWA says for time between rotations now though... It would be 7:58 end of duty, so 11:12 off until next check in. Is there a 12 hour min between rotations per PWA, or could I do this?
Thx!
