If you were a junior ER captain why would you bid off to a lower paying aircraft? Not to mention a crappier aircraft?

Seniority? Just a guess.... and BTW, one did on this AE.... went to the 737
. Not sure what your definition of "crappier" is, but just because something pays more, doesn't make it better. I have zero interest in the 330, but I am thinking you think that in comparison the 767 is "crappier"

----

Another 7ER Captain also bid B717. Again. We already have at least one that I know of from a previous AE. See:

Those pay 29-31 dollars per hour more than the 7ER does now. I think overall, that will be a good thing- getting rid of an underpaying airframe.

mmmm sure. okay If you think Mr Anderson is gonna buy 787s (That we will see before 2020) or 350s (an airplane that has zero bugs worked out of it) you seriously do not understand the man.

Don't knock the 350, it's the closest looking thing to a 757 that we'll ever see again.

Things are finally breaking loose seniority wise after years of stagnation. Many new Captains on the last two awards, and at least some advancement for mid-seniority FO's, whether that's getting more senior on your equipment or bidding up to bigger jets. Now, if we only had more bigger jets...
Now this is my opinion, but I don't think RA wants any more widebody aircraft. Have I missed a memo? There are only 10 330's on order. We will never see the 787's. The 76 and 75's are being retired. At what rate? Who knows? But, they are being retired. The 747's and 777's aren't being backfilled. Again, we don't know why.

I understand that you can't judge this backward movement by one AE. But, I have been steadily moving back by one or two numbers every AE for the last 3 or 4 years. 767 downward movement into my category is happening. I'm an 88 hire. If senior people don't move up, no one is really moving up.

I know that there have been lots of new captain positions created with the 717's coming on the property. It makes it look like the age 65 logjam is finally breaking loose. But, it is not. Not in the big picture.

OK then, if he can get 777's or A330's a lot cheaper, then he'll get those. Same effect. I do know he's all about return on capital investment. If the 787 or 350 can provide that return, he'll get them.

Hell seems to have frozen over, again. I agree with you T-Square.

While the pay diff isn't much, the in-flight qol is vastly different! I've done the 6hr jfk to sea, fighting the winds in a 737 and wanted to hang myself by half way... but couldn't stand up to do so! I don't have any desire to return to that again.

If I wanted to fly a 737 for my career, I would have gone to SW... I'm glad the bottom half is going to see improvement, though.

C'mon, really? If senior people don't move up no one moves up? I'm going out on a limb and say that you could probably hold one category higher than you are in now. There are a lot of long time FO's who are finally getting that 40K/year pay raise and the left seat. They are most definitely moving up.

There really aren't a lot of retirements off the 747/777 until the fall, and then they continue unabated. Unless we are parking those, they have to backfill. Expect a bid.

10 A330's is what, 250 widebody Captains? Even if we park 10 767's that's still forward movement...

If you're in one of the bases where people will fly anything to drive to work, like CVG or SLC, then forget about any movement. That's always going to be that way.
