Be sure that your rotation shows you having been released from duty after you completed your screening. (24 Q. 11.) This may or may not make a difference in your rotation pay.

Why did you allow it to happen? Both you and your captain should have known that they had to release you. I never fly reserve but I do know the basics of the contract, and one of them is that there are NO domicile layovers on reserve. We all need to be intimately familiar with the basics of the scheduling section, especially when we were given a brand new scheduling reference handbook in December. Not aiming at you only Bobman.

And it will continue to happen regularly unless each and every one of us protests at the time it happens, very time it happens, taking it all the way up to the Chief Pilot, if necessary, and provides details of the occurrence to the Scheduling Committee regardless of how the protest turns out.

Otherwise, we harm not only ourselves but the pilot who would have otherwise been awarded the remainder of the trip on his WS.

As to "why did I allow it to happen", it was during that first week in January when 117 and all the chaos from the storms was occurring. I called scheduling to ask them about this but after holding for 30 minutes I hung up. I did call Alpa Scheduling and they said they would "write it up and send it to the company". They also said they didn't know if I'd get anything for it but agreed it was a contract violation.

They have violated this for years that is the reason I said reserves will be denied a hotel if they create a domicile layover during a rotation and you are a reserve. I've had it happen more than once. The last time the CA was REG and he headed to the hotel and I headed to the LA Quinta on my own dime. If you tell scheduling they are not allowed to do it they don't care. The first time I called ALPA they said I wasn't entitled to anything so I don't go through the trouble of raising hell about it. That was a couple years ago though so maybe I'll start now that we have a new group in ALPA.

The only thing I've had happen in regard to the RES "domicile layover" was the overnight was cancelled while in ATL. I was on RES so I was off the trip, Icrew showed that. Then I get a call before I even make it to the crewroom, new rotation tomorrow shows at 3pm, oh, it's the same rotation you were doing originally because I was the only one available for the next day on the ladder. It was a domicile overnight but not in name.

Went home, came back and kept flying. Had I commuted, I'd grumbled.

Unrelated to aviation but R.I.P. Philip Seymour Hoffman. One of the few actors I thought was really good.

I have dealt with contract admin at DALPA many times. There point of existence is to stop these kinds of abuses. I have never had them tell me what they told you. I can't believe you did not get the name of the individual involved and go straight to your rep. This is their job and reason we pay them. There are only a few individuals who process these events. Both who would have been working a few years ago have given me nothing but outstanding service.
