I'll say it. Kareem Abdul Jabar as a Delta Pilot in our new safety video. Career expectation exceeded, self actualization complete.

So I get off APC to get some pictures of the house. There is a school bus off the road, so I walk down to the scene and offer assistance. Keep walking and there are two Delta Tech Ops people and their sons helping stranded motorists get unstuck. We team up with two cops to try to keep the local road moving (if we can't unstick them the cops use their push bars and basically shove them over the hill or off the road). The cars getting really stuck are mostly German sports sedans. The cops are easily doing several thousands of dollars in damage pushing Mercedes and BMW's with their bumper guards, nobody seems to care.

After 5 hours of that the line of cars is never ending. The Tech Ops guys decided they are going to work. So we got them unstuck and I started walking home. Found three families spending the night in their cars including a Pan Am pilot and his wife who had picked up their 3 year old grand (great?) daughter from school, ... two of the three families are in our house and one is with our neighbor.

Never seen anything quite like this. Our friends kids are everywhere. One group is spending the night in a furniture store (beds and couches).

Much like Dubai when it........rains! Schools and roads closed, Metro shutdown, Airshow cancelled. An EK pilot thought it was exactly like ATL after 2" of SNOW!

Re: German sports sedans - yeah - "all season radials" that are basically sport tires. Everyone up here puts real snow tires on theirs come winter.

What the hell they got down there???

I live in Idaho and took drivers-ed when I was 14 in a Caprice that we had to chain up in to get through some of the driving days. Lived in Montana for a few years as well,. I've seen rain change to freezing rain coating everything in 1/4 inch of clear ice then dump snow on top of that. It's actually worse when it only covers the ice with about 1-2 inches. If it dumps 8-12 inches on top then you have plenty of traction to get around. I can throw snow cables ($29 at Autozone) on my Civic and drive through about anything.

lived in IAH for 6 years and would always venture out during the massive winter weather systems. Never saw anything that was even close to crap that we actually drove in during drivers-ed when I was 14 years old.

This was snow for a couple of hours. Then it got compacted and became ice. As folks were driving on it they polished it. Chains work, but not much else does.

The German sedans with their open differentials and ABS based traction control systems are just absolutely terrible. Not only do they get stuck, the brakes and rotors are smoking. Those things are probably 20% to 30% of the cars around here and about 90% of the types found in the ditch.

Subarus, F250's and for some reason Honda Oddessy Vans are unstoppable. The beggest suck surprise is Jeep Grand Cherokees. The must have sold a lot of those with 2WD or something. They're awful today.

Real snow tires suck....they make too much noise and then you have to pay to swap back to normal tires in the spring.
