Hey, it's my hypothetical, and the rotation shows 8:01 Eastbound, 9:00 back!

1st hypo:
6.5 for breaks, 2:10 actual, fp gets 3rd break.

Now, what if the FP wants 2nd break or he shows up tired and wants 1st...Is there an app for that?

With 117 coming online Delta has increased 3 man ops contrary to the wild forum speculation. As a example Jfk to Dub is now a 3 man trip. The duty day is two short with a 2 man crew to cover delays.

OK, seems like we're struggling with why the third guy is there, and whether he has to be there. At a minimum, he's there because the contract says so, and I think we want to be in the business of enforcing the contract.

Regardless of the reason, you've got three guys. You want to use the third guy? He needs to be rested, because he's liable. If you want to go the other way, like CAL used to, then let's put the relief in the cabin, with a Scotch in hand, for the outbound leg to Europe.

When I was on the -er, the mid galley was the source of all the plate rattling and then the cart wielding ranchers who worked on their ability to hip-check the rest area curtain. Rest only happened on 2nd break. (not based on science, but experience)

But, hey, let's not over-hypotheticalize this this thing: here is an actual NYC trip. It's yours, and it's going exactly on schedule today. Can we agree :30 is normal for taxi out, :10 for taxi-in? How do you split up the breaks, under 117?

Errr... scotch in hand? While I would love to DH to Europe to fly back, at CAL the relief FO deadheads in coach I believe, unless there is an upgrade available. Don't quote me on that, but I think that's the way it is - or was - a few years ago.
