I did, coded CBA401K. Not sure why.
I remember a similar check last year after I returned from long term mil lv and was told something about 401k holdback while inactive. Not sure why it happened again. We're you mil lv?
I just sent an email to payroll asking the question.

NWA MP3 “Residual”: The NWA MP3 targeting plan "residual" payment for the 2013 plan year is being distributed to eligible pilots on January 24th. The calculation resulted in a payment equal to approximately 2.7 percent of eligible 2013 calendar year earnings. The distribution will be treated as an employer contribution to the Delta Pilots Savings Plan, counting against the 2013 IRS limits to the maximum extent permitted by law, with any excess paid as cash via a manual check (i.e. not electronic deposit). If you have questions regarding this issue, please email the Delta MEC Senior Benefits Specialist, Karen Browne-Fleck, [email protected] .

Agreed. I once flew with a F/O on the DC-8 for a whole month. On the last trip of the month sitting in a bar a friend of his starts talking about his second Mig kill. This guy flew Thuds, had 2 mig kills, Silver Star and I didn't find out until trip number four at the end of the month. A true soft spoken professional.
Only one Thud guy had two MiG kills, both on the same flight. Max C. Brestel. March 10, 1967.
After 15 minutes of fruitless searching, you need to chime up "um, would you like a pencil instead?"
Bwahahahahahahaha!

This.
The MP3 (otherwise known as the TDC, or targeted plan) is being sunseted.
The MP3, at the end of every year had a "residual", which was money that was allocated to the targeted portion of the plan, but was not paid due to any number of reasons (LOAs, etc).
At the end of each plan year, the residual was returned to the participants in December. This year, due to the actuarials involved in shutting down the plan completely, the time required was a bit longer, and the close out was for the entire plan's duration.
Those who had space left in their 2013 IRS limits were paid via that route. Those who were "full", or were filed up with a part of the residual payout will see a manual check, either for the full amount or the around beyond their IRS limit.
It was about 2 percent and change.
