ACL What is the possibility that we could lose out on both JAL and the AA JFK terminal deals?

I don't have acl's crystal ball, but wasn't the speculation about those deals that one kinda depends on the other? If AA gets the stake in JAL, that would weaken their cash position to the point where they would have to consider selling the JFK terminal to DL. And if not, DL gets a stronger position at NRT as wel as stealing JAL from AA. I tend to think wih this network expansion, the JFK terminal deal is probably off the table now.

Aviationweek.com,

Air France has tapped its SkyTeam alliance partner Delta to audit the carriers’ safety practices.
By Robert Wall

The French carrier has come under fire from some of its pilots, who say the airline has let safety standards slip in recent years. The accusations were made in the wake of the crash of an Air France Airbus A330-200 (AF447) June 1 on a flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Details on when and how the audit will be conducted have not been worked out.

Air France has taken several safety-related steps since the crash of AF447, including replacing two of three Thales pitot tubes on Airbus A330 and A340s. The Thales pitot tubes were on the mishap aircraft, which appeared to have received anomalous speed information, although no direct link has been established between that event and the crash. Air France completed the modification Aug. 7, the airline said. Pilot training procedures have also been enhanced.

Trying to let DAL know that they too can flex their muscle. The question at the end of the day is who right now in the politicians eyes has the bigger pair to flex and who they decide to latch on to. Chicago is obvious. NYC is the question. NYC is the next big fight. AMR has MIA we have ATL. They have ORD we have MSP and DTW. We both are deciding on LAX. We have SEA. The swords are being drawn for the upcoming battle.

FORT WORTH, Texas, Sept. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AMR Corporation (NYSE: AMR - News), the parent company of American Airlines and American Eagle, earlier today announced a series of actions that will better position it to meet the industry's near-term economic challenges while continuing to build on its foundation and strategy for long-term success.

"It's great to see American Airlines, and its regional partners, increasing their investment in Illinois. Our state is a major transportation crossroads and also home to O'Hare International Airport, one of the world's finest airports. It is further testament to the fact that Chicago is truly a global transportation hub and a gateway to the world. This new flight along with the new flights to Vancouver and Calgary further strengthen our position as a global city."

- Mayor Richard M. Daley

The strength and vitality of Chicago can be attributed to its place in history as a transportation hub and any word of new service at O'Hare International Airport is truly good news."

- Jerry Roper, President of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce

Dallas/Fort Worth: 19 additional daily flights at DFW, one new international destination, 780 total daily departures to 160 destinations

"American is an important part of the North Texas economy and plays a key role in connecting Dallas businesses to other business centers throughout the country and around the world. We are pleased with the additional 19 flights and American's continued commitment to the city of Dallas and DFW. This clearly reinforces Dallas' appeal in today's global economy."

"It's great news for New York City that American Airlines will increase service from New York and add three new international destinations. Not only is it an indication of American's ongoing commitment to the New York community, it also represents a tremendous vote of confidence that New York City's future as a successful, global city is as bright as ever."

- Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg

"American's new service at JFK will provide New Yorkers greater reach to more destinations. This new service continues to build American and American Eagle's extensive international and domestic network out of JFK and the greater New York region."

I think that DAL would be happy not getting JAL. They want the access more than anything. IMHO, if they can get that, they are fine with AMR propping up JAL.
As for T-8. It is their desire, but if AMR wants all of it, they will just go to plan B or C. They have those ready to go too!

Does appear that we are going Tit for Tat with them doesn't it?

Up next mainline service out of DFW to more cities. I really do see this coming. It goes in line with some of the actions that are taking place. Of course I could be wrong, be I am sure we will play this game to a point.

Delta and Olympic Air have entered into a partnership to codeshare on Delta’s nonstop flights between New York-JFK and Athens, Greece, and on certain flights beyond in North America.

The agreement, which was announced Thursday and is pending government approvals, is scheduled to go into effect in early October. The agreement also provides scope for future discussions between Delta, Olympic Air and Delta’s joint venture partner, Air France KLM, for increased network opportunities across Europe and North America.

“Delta has a very strong network presence in the United States, and Olympic Air passengers flying to New York-JFK will benefit from service to around 40 onward destinations via New York,” said Andrew Guenther, director-Alliance Planning and Analysis. “This is a very exciting time for the new Olympic Air, and we at Delta are delighted that the new marketing agreement between our two airlines will enable us to better serve the Greek market.”

Delta began flying to Greece in 1991 and is the longest-serving U.S. airline between Athens and the U.S. Delta operates daily year-round service between Athens and New York-JFK, as well as summer seasonal service between Athens and Atlanta.

Olympic Air is the privatized successor to state-owned Olympic Airlines. Olympic Airlines, which offers Athens-New York service, will operate its final flights Sept. 28. Olympic Air service will start Sept. 29.

South guys or anyone else who may know,

I have an AE question. Let's say I bid to change bases, but stay on the same airplane. (DTW DC-9 to MSP DC-9). When should I expect to start flying out of the new base? Right away? Or, sometime during the conversion process (??? I think that's what it's called. ???).
