The coffee though is spot on. I'm anxiously awaiting the Atlanta Bread Company to open on A, as they have the best coffee in the airport IMO and I never seem to be on C when I need a jolt. B is now a barren coffee wasteland now that the Italian place is gone - better tank up before you get there.

Hypothetical situation:

I'm flying with Capt Longsleeves and we get to the hotel 8 hours and 10 minutes prior to scheduled pickup.

Being the law-abiding citizen I am, I insist on 9 hours behind the door to SSSS&Shampoo.

The stalwart captain insists on making the scheduled van to "keep the operation running."

I guess I'd call and work my own deal with crew tracking, and then fill out an ASAP/call pro stan the next day. Thoughts?

The FAA has already published clarification - I posted a copy of it a few pages back. They say that your 10 hours of rest must provide an opportunity to get 8 hours of uninterrupted SLEEP - weather or not you actually need that much is up to you, but the opportunity must still be there. As others have said, it's essentially impossible to get 8 hours of sleep when you only have 8 hours behind the door. So, if circumstances resulted in you only having 8 hours behind the door (rooms not ready, transportation issues, etc.) and you accepted it, you are essentially in violation of the FAR since there is literally no way that you had an opportunity for 8 hours of uninterrupted SLEEP.

It's up to each individual pilot to ensure they get the opportunity for 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. If you don't get it, you're not legal. Regardless of what captain Longsleeves says

Im on a roll now. Talk about professionalism, pride and dignity. The company really does not care. Next time you are on 1st, 2nd or 3rd break, enjoy the walk of shame to your rest facility which is conveniently located in the middle of First Class: real eye opener

. First Off, the passengers stare you down. Second of all, creating your nest is a goat rope. Trying to snap-up the curtains and getting yourself into place, while the cabin is dim could be very challenging. The whole process is embarrassing and cheapens the First Class experience for our High Value Customers.
