Default Pro Diem

Is Pro Diem worth it for a MD88 driver that rarely has an international layover? I'm not even that senior so most of my layovers end up being in small cities like Buffalo, Grand Rapids, Birmingham, etc...

Short answer..................................YES! Even if it only saved me a hundred bucks, I'd do it ,cause I hate being (what I feel) is overly taxed.

Try it for a year, it's only about $60 now. The fee itself I believe is a write off and if it doesn't work for you, you're only out the $60. My guess is it will save you a lot more.

Exactly, no matter what fleet you're on, as long as you're above standard deduction, its net positive to utilize either pro diem or flightline.

Well, I was MD88 and am missing 3 months in 2013 and mine came out to $4,500 for maximum allowed meal and incidental expenses. I'll gladly throw that into the mix.

Just an update here....

Switched from Sabre Flightline to Pro Diem taking the advice of some of my fellow posters. $59 as advertised and quick turn around time.
I have a MAC and the process took approximately 15-20 minutes and the report was sent to me the next day.

Overall pretty content with my experience.

I think the format of the flightline schedule is nice, but last time it took me til April to get it so this time I said no. I guess you can order the pro diem one for $59 on top of the flightline and still come out ahead and have your return in early February instead of after April 15th.

It's a two hands in a bush and time value of money thing.

Without negotiating or giving up anything, I would think it would be in the best interest of the company to keep their "machines" fed and nourished.

I simply go eat as needed between legs. If the flight ends up going late it's not something I control. The company will look at the number of late flights and decide when they want to board meals outside the contractual requirements.
