I was tempted to test it today because I don't really want to go to work tomorrow. 
Got a trip on the schedule for tomorrow afternoon. They put it on at about 8AM local which is a lot earlier than they usually cover open trips. So I had 30 hours to ack the trip.
In my 7 years at Delta I have always acknowledged trips that were put on my schedule the day prior. So in this case I decided to do what I have always done and acknowledge the trip. Didn't want to be the first to give the 117 rule a whirl. So far in my category I have not seen any trips that were assigned via the LC process come back into the pot. So nobody has tested it yet here, but they had all those trips assigned close to 24 hours prior to report.
Now, if they call me at 1AM for a trip the next day at 2PM, I'm not going to acknowledge that one until I wake up because that is what I have always done.

"Hard landing" damages MD-90 at MKE
Lots of incidents in the news lately. Add another one to the list from this afternoon.
A Delta flight from Minneapolis was damaged upon landing Wednesday afternoon at Mitchell International Airport.
There were no injuries. Some flights were delayed when Delta Flight 2504 made a hard landing around 4:15 p.m. The airport runway reopened around 5:45 p.m.
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel sports columnist Michael Hunt was on the flight after covering the Marquette men's basketball team in Omaha, Neb. on Tuesday.
"It was a tough landing. The pilot said the brakes locked and it blew two tires," Hunt said in a phone interview shortly before 5 p.m. as he and other passengers waited on board the plane for buses to carry them to the airport.
Airport spokeswoman Patricia Rowe said the plane experienced a mechanical problem as it landed at the airport's north-south runway. The plane turned off the runway and was parked on an adjacent taxiway. Several emergency vehicles were sent to the scene.
Hunt said the plane was about three-quarters filled. Passengers were calm when the plane landed.
Travelers waiting for flights at the airport were told an air traffic emergency had closed a runway at the airport.
Passengers were picked up by shuttle buses around 5:15 p.m. and taken to the terminal, Hunt said. They were told crews hoped to tow the plane nearer to the terminal to unload luggage. Travelers with checked bags were advised they could either wait for luggage to be unloaded or have their suitcases delivered to them later.

That's fine if that's where this is headed. But the magic memo in question pretends we are on a 2 hour fantasy leash starting from the beginning of long call to preserve the staffing neutral pipe dream of 12 hour long call in an extremely creative way. No one is saying all pilots should acknowledge all assigments 3 hours prior and therefore go illegal. But no pilot is on a 2 hour long call leash either because that simply doesn't exist.
We are under no obligation whatsoever to schedule check or acknlwledge while on a day off. Never were. And there simply is no such thing as a 2 hour long call leash. The company refusing to negotiate to solve this because they're stuck in their fantasy world of pretend 117 staffing neutral models in no way creates a mandate to unilaterally rewrite our contract and impose what would be a pretty huge concession (2 hour LC leash). Hopefully this is fixed soon. But until then there is a contract fully in place.
