My understanding is the capt is the poc for the fdra. Due to my willingness to work harder for my post bankruptcy pay, I try to make it easy for him. If we get into one of those rolling delay, stick around for engine runs, etc. I just step up as the bad guy and say I'm not willing to extend. You've all been there. Make the call how you see fit. I know what my call is going into it.
Scambo,
FOs will not need to step up most of the time. It says "......full crew" How often will all of the FAs extend if they know they have a choice.
I guess the CAPT will have to query the FAs in the brief "If we need to extend are all of you willing and able to extend?"
I guess the A line will have to query the rest of the FAs since domestically the CAPT often does not meet the whole crew face to face.
But hey, its a great concept - sign away saying that people you may, or may not have ever met, are able and willing to extend their crew day.
I realize that this is often routine, but the whole thing seems like a joke - we extend by default. If that's the case why not make the extended limit the actual limit?
Oh I see, that is not very good "safety theater" were we pretend 117 was all about safety.

You all need to go to read some aircraft ident books. It's a Convair 880!

Could be - it says the whole crew and that is a DAL document so I am not sure exactly who they are referring to.
Trying to play Devils advocate here I can kind of see where the company is coming from. These extensions are most likely to come during WX events etc when the dispatchers are going to be swamped.
If a dispatcher has to have a one on one conversation with multiple crews about extending the whole system may just grind to a halt. They will be plenty busy with other stuff.
Airlines today are minimally staffed in all support positions - think actual classes of ground school with human beings as instructors in an environment where you can ask a question or learn from anothers question vs a CD in your V-file.
I guess its just the nature of the beast.

There's a new game in town, it's called swap two short trips for two 62:00 trips, for a 124hr. line!
And you thought trip parking was hurting you?
That's child's play compared to this new game!

Does anyone know if there is a different way to check and list for AA jumpseat? Tried the link in travelnet with the username and password and keep getting denied. Thanks

The old 8 day, 46hr. NRT-SIN trip, thanks to FAR117, is now a 10 day, 62hr. trip.
After bid awards there were about 25 of them in open time, because PBS couldn't build very many lines with it. But now, after a few PCS runs, most of them have been sucked up through swaps, and the open time is nearly all 32 hr. JNB trips.
It's the old rule of unintended consequences, guys are going to be flying MORE, not less, so of course they'll be more rested...
Oh, and it's going to cost the company a small fortune because they are now going to pay 62 hours to cover the same legs flown as the old 46hr. trip.
