Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
The company sure is engaging with a bit less constructiveness these days it seems.
They were predicted to be good, but I don't think anyone realized how well rounded they were. I mean... it's Winston's first year starting and he's a redshirt freshman. Usually new quarterbacks have a much harder time adjusting to their role. I think it's going to be a good game.
None of our games required a miracle play to come out with a win, either.

Also, very rarely does the pre-season pick actually win the national championship.

We sell a commodity at Delta. Its not the same commodity sold at UPS or Fedex as our primary business. Southwest does sell the same commodity and in 2012 their average pilot made 157,000 dollars. The average pilot at Delta made 158,000 and change. The average Delta pilot received a pension benefit package worth 51,000 dollars. The average SouthWest pilots package was 27,466. The average Delta pilot flew 52 block hours a month in 2012 at SW it was 64.5. Total block hour costs at Delta which is the one number wallstreet, management and the NMB really care about was 941 dollars an hour. SW was at 698 dollars an hour. To make that a really honest comparison because of the fleet mix Delta's narrowbody cost was 911 per hour verses 692 at SW.
To look at the 2013 numbers pilot compensation will be up another 10.8 percent which should put the average Delta pilot around 174,000 a year with no increase at SW. 2014 should bump the average Delta pilot to just under 180K a year and a additional 1 percent into the retirement package with no increase at SW.
All and all a remarkable comeback from a company that was bankrupt in 2005. When you go before the NMB the above numbers are what will be in play. I know you read the powerpoint presentation from the head of the NMB when she flew to Atlanta to lay out the ground rule for our contract negotiations to the MEC. She made it very clear that any release would be contingent on our proposals being reasonable and the definition of reasonable would be our standing amongst the other passenger airlines.

How about another number - average revenue produced per pilot. Last time I checked we were close but the average DAL pilot produced more $ than the average SW pilot. So, we got that going for us.
DAL 37.3B/11,723 = 3.18 Million per Pilot
LUV 17.44B/6327 = 2.75 Million per Pilot
Source: Yahoo Finance for revenue, APC for total Pilots.

Sailing,
If you're going to project our increased compensation, to be fair I think it would also be reasonable to include a projection for our increased productivity... ALV+15 comes to mind.
I'm also curious how you calculated the value of pension benefits.
Just curious. Thank you for the informative post.

The contract overall provide a very small increase in productivity. Around 150 jobs was the estimate and 117 offset that.
ALV15 is mostly a forum job loss not a job loss in reality. It only comes into play on the rare month a pilot is flown above ALV and would not have put in a yellow slip to do so under the old system.
THe ALV15 itself was traded for productivity gains. The biggest being accounting for known absences to calculate when a pilot is full. With almost every Captain having 5 weeks of vacation and training 1.5 times a year there is absence every other month. FO's are less but still high. In addition the definition of when a pilot is full was lowered. Those two items combined with a average 21 percent raise for reserves offset the ALV15. A raise of that size typically sees pilots flying less.
The company is using the exact same manning assumptions they used for the prior contracts. The manning formulas have not changed. Since the contract was signed we have added over 300 additional captains positions. If there had been a productivity gain of anything like what the forum projected we would have had massive displacements of captains not upgrades for FO's. The bottom half of the FO list took a hit caused by the contract. The contract kept them on the payroll when at most airlines they probably would have been furloughed in 09. Had then been furloughed they would have been recalled to staff the 717. Instead they were displaced down from very overmanned categories to fly the 717.

If the game was played this week, FSU by a lot, they're just too good, but after the loooong break, who knows....
Like I said, I wasn't expecting it either. They have shown themselves to be very well rounded and able to adapt very well to whoever they are playing.
Also, very rarely does the pre-season pick actually win the national championship.

Good luck to you and FTB.
They are very much like the Florida State teams of the 90's that used to battle it out with Notre Dame and Florida every year. Great talent on both sides of the ball and a great quarterback. They might even be better in that I think they have a field goal kicker. (No more wide right/wide left's)
Good luck to you and FTB.

I didn't go to the games in 94 and 00 when we won. I went to the others. I'm not going this year... that increases the odds!
I was typing something similar out, but it was getting too long. I've been going to games consistently since 93 or so. I've seen both national championship teams play, as well as others that have played and lost in national championships. I was very skeptical at the beginning of the year, but I've been more impressed by this team than any one that we've ever had. I just hope they show up on the 6th!
