Why?
Because they are CHEAP.
You can't get much cheaper than FREE. Richard wanted Microsoft as a huge corporate client and Microsoft just happened to have a bunch of tablets laying around, unsold. Can you say Frequent Flyer Miles?
Did anyone really think he was going to PAY Apple for 40,000 tablets, when Microsoft was going to give us theirs for free?
Not to worry, we are going to be making a ton of money out of SEA, due to hauling Microsoft Execs around the world. Never mind the OS, you'll figure it out eventually while you are flying our new A330's from SEA to everywhere, it'll give you something to play with, while you can't get any rest in that Crew Rest seat in Business Class.
You know Richard likes Cheap. We are still flying the DC 9's and buying used MD90's and we just ordered 10 A330's and Zero big Boeings.

I think a buddy of mine at RAH said it was 4 hours of holiday pay on top of whatever you made that month. Sure that's like a $100 for some but hey, it was still 4 hours on top and not lost in the "towards guarantee" ambiguity language.

Since Auburn was mentioned how about a little miracle in Jordan Hare in slow motion and set to sappy Whitney Houston music...
Provisions or not, if the old rules were in place I would be with family tomorrow eating turkey instead of sitting short call. Roadkill is correct, the worst consequence of the new rule is that pilots can be scheduled against their will over ALV not that a pilot is going to fly up to ALV+15 every month. The amount you go over the ALV is not the issue. Being scheduled 1 minute over ALV can have the same consequence in many instances as being scheduled 15 hours over ALV. Besides the lost time off if the pilot chose to take it, it has significant staffing consequences.
