I'm astounded by the number of folks accepting green slips to fly on Thanksgiving.

Please point me towards the part of our contract that allows vacation sellback. I'm not aware of this provision.

Or are you just venting a misplaced frustration?

As opposed to Inverse Assignments?

The Company has a business to run. Would you rather the pilots who want to fly (and who's seniority potentially pays them more) fly, or the junior guys who somehow managed to get a day off they wanted forced to do something they don't want to do?

Having worked for a company that junior manned you every year to get through the holidays and weekends, green slips beat the alternative. Also, junior manning can result in sick call issues. People don't call in sick, even when sick, during their off days. If junior manned you can find yourself having to explain a dubious sick call.

Always better if the people who want to fly, fly, and those who don't enjoy their time off.

Here it is:

To A-320 Captains,

Delta Air Lines informed the Association that, due to operational considerations and pursuant to PWA Section 7 F. 10., the company is proffering to liquidate January vacations for captains in the 320 categories.

Liquidations will be processed in seniority order based on operational needs. If you have a vacation in the January bid period, you can expect a call from the company with a proffer to liquidate that vacation. You may refuse the proffer and keep your scheduled vacation if that is your desire.

If you are interested in having your vacation liquidated or have any questions, please contact Crew Resources by emailing them at [email protected] no later than 1000 EST December 4th. If your seniority allows your vacation to be liquidated, you will be notified by email prior to 1800EST Dec 4th.

If your January vacation is liquidated, you will bid in PBS as if the vacation were never there. You will be paid for the liquidated vacation on 15FEB14. The pay will be in addition to earned pay and credit for the January bid period.

Selling vacations is bad. Think less green slips, and less Capt. seats available for upgrade. Please think before you act.

Oh, I agree with you. Having missed many holidays in my previous gig, I will never willingly give up a holiday at home. When I'm not contractually contactable, my phone is off.

"Misplaced frustration?" Oops.

Care to revise your snarky response?

Very well. I'm perfectly capable of admitting a mistake.

My apologies to gzsg.

Default Thanksgiving Plans Fell Apart

Our Thanksgiving plans fell apart. I am willing to fly the next two days. I am on reserve and have X days.

How do you proffer a green slip on reserve?

I know it's in PCS. Do you apply under green slip request or under first to fly on X days?

Thanks.
