I know talking about the Delta culture is like touching the third rail in politics. Guys like you immediately swarm in to punish with name calling galore, the infidel that dares discuss the culture. It means nothing to me. I don't care about being accepted into your culture...especially if the price for membership is accepting a prohibition of discussion topics.

Carl

Oh so now you are engaging in a "discussion". Alinsky, secret police, apologists... yeah. You are a real piece of work "captain".

I almost forgot that most DAL pilots were hired because they would never, ever consider striking against mother Delta.

Ok T. You are head coach of ALPA. We are up against highly funded lobbyists seeking cabotage. It looks like they are obtaining the votes and the politicians need to win the game. It's the 4th quarter,

What play are we going to run coach?

I agree with your later post that "legally" it will be difficult. Actually I think you and I share a similar cynicism regarding our government. The wheels turn slowly however, and as long as the dialogue can continue in DC there is a chance we can keep them out. (Auburn only had 25 seconds of life last night.. right?) If that dialogue stops as it would if Tim Caplinger gets his wish and ALPA dies, then that chance will more than likely die with it. So what then? APA calls for a SOS because they will then be the biggest union? SWAPA? Who will have the following to pull off a national SOS should that (and I DO believe it is an academic discussion) ever become reality?

I would keep talking. I would keep my contacts open and available in the best way I could. Dino has done a pretty good job in the legislative affairs office, and I would keep that going. He gets access because of the ALPA affiliation. (You think it is in our best interest to chop of that line of communication?) Or do you think that CAPA... or more to the point - the DPA - can get that same level of access? Look, I hate the national politicians with a passion. Bribing them to do their ****ing jobs is as distasteful to me as it would be to see the Gators win the national championship. (I would pull for the Taliban over FU).. But what other choice do we have? You want to close up shop to save a few bucks on dues money? That is a guaranteed loss.

That's because you only compare rates of pay. I did the same thing after our merger thinking I was going to see a nice pay bump. I was unpleasantly surprised to see my W2 a lot lower than with NWA. It took almost 3 years post merger to equal my last W2 at NWA. This is where work rules come in. So no, I don't think you ever really led the industry. Neither did NWA.

With respect, I don't think you were able to get a better contract. You might have thought so looking only at pay rates, but not actual compensation...and definitely not scope. Delta has nearly led the industry on outsourcing pilot jobs for a long time.

Again, I don't think you got to the same place, but I know you believe you did. And I'm not casting aspersions on you southies...nor dispersions either.

This actually gets to the heart of the matter. I agree with that percentage. In my experience with other unionized airlines, that's a very high number. How did that happen? Was it a coincidence? Was it screening? It's the question I'm asking myself.

Didn't HR 3488 die?

Replaced by HR 528 which has a 3% probability of passing. The reality is ALPA cannot compete with Boeing and the ME carriers when it comes to buying these dirt bags off.
