I think it's going to be more of a change in the trips than all out crappy trips. Some longer overnights, some more deadheads, etc. Some people will like it and some will hate it. You might not be able to back trips up together to minimize commutes, etc. It's change. Many of us don't like change and already like the trips we do.

Where was FAR 117 mitigation on your wish list for C2012? Have you talked to a rep about the current negotiations on this?

In talking to a couple of reps I have been told the company is planning on reroutes and inverse assignments to manage this until negotiations are complete. They feel that they will use this as a scare tactic as well as a way to put pressure on us, the line pilots, to get what they want out of this. So far we have not given anything on this issue.

If you are on a NB starting in January expect reroutes.

A year ago my Rep (44) spent a good half an hour convincing me the FAR 117 rules were going to be, more or less, a push because of our CBA. Now I'm told to stand by for a year or so of significant loss of quality of life while ALPA figures these "new" regulations out?

Representation fail..... Again....
How exactly is this a "representational fail"? We're not in negotiations. The company has chosen to work within the framework of our existing PWA. Additionally, I don't think anybody is stating that there will be a "significant loss of quality of life". I think they're just saying - stand by for some changes.

We understand that these FAR changes, while improving fatigue mitigation, may negatively impact certain quality of life aspects of your rotations. We are influencing changes where possible in the January bid packages, but it is likely there will still be many opportunities for enhancement.

Honestly, these regulations have been pretty fluid since their proposal. Just read through the interpretations. I don't think anybody, including ALPA or the airlines, have gotten a grip on the unintended consequences in Part 117.

But please, what would you rather ALPA do? Seriously? Would you rather they sign a quid pro quo LOA? Would you rather they offer no communication up front? Would you rather they not take part in the process and stomp their feet like children?

Really, I don't mean this post to sound antagonistic. But please, tell me how DALPA failed in this case. Because, to me, when you blame them for the sun coming up in the east and setting in the west, you lose a little credibility.

We haven't given anything? Why would we give anything in the first place? Abide by the PWA and 117.

Oh, forgot, we don't have any negotiating power on this...if the company wants relief then we have to give it to them or this fleeting opportunity will flitter away.

As far as the trips I look at it as I do the MD-88: It can't get any worse because I don't know anything better than what it is currently.

DLS Guardian - US $33,750 $767.40 $63.95
Group Term Life Member $50,000 $45.36 $3.78
ALPA Loss of License - VEBA $1,200 $519.96 $43.33
Is this telling me I'm payin $767 a year to get just $33,750 of insurance from Guardian? That seems a totally self-insurable amount, a worthless pittance, and not worth $767 a year to me... what am I missing?
Also, ALPA loss of license, coverage $1200... what does this mean? Is the insurance payout for a loss of license just $1200? Am I really paying 50% of that, $520 a year, for just $1200 bucks?

I have all my insurance papers packed away for some renovations just now, so can't find my relevant docs... any info appreciated. I MUST be reading this wrong?
Unfortunately, I know a little about the Loss Of License. Your benefit is $1200 a month. The kicker is 1year waiting period. You must appy for the LOL benefit within 90 days of when you first called in sick. I can't remember how long it lasts, and I hope I'm better before I find out. DPMA covers you for the first 12 months. DPMA is a max of 12 months and a max of 2 times in a career.
Friendly advise from your fellow DAL guy: Get your life insurance and disability insurance NOW! It can happen to you! I'm 37 years old, 2 kids and a stay at home mom, with cancer. I will be back but with CT scans for the rest of my life. I have some life insurance but should have more. I will never be able to qualify for more.
I don't want to scare anyone, but it can and does happen. Protect your family.

Glad to hear you are on the mend, and hopefully you'll be back soon. Thanks for the good advice.

Agreed we should not give anything. I was only making the statement because of the inference by some that we have already given up contractual benefits.

There's a link on the DeltaNet with a VP of Asia discussing the Tokyo hub, more of a promotional thing... but it certainly sounds as if Delta is wanting to make a go of the whole operation over there. Just another dot...

I agree. With 117, we are now nearly "Working to FAR", just like the commuters. There isn't much more productivity to give. And with the 7th short call, when you aren't flying, you'll be on SC.
