Looks suspiciously like a violation of the contract to me.

That's an unfortunate aspect of being on reserve with a domicile layover. Almost every time I've been rerouted into one, I've ended up getting called 5 minutes later with the balance of the trip on my schedule. Raw groups for the win!

I sure never mind the extra night at home. Not as good of a deal for a commuter.

It's not. You have to be removed from the trip and the balance offered up for any white slips/lineholders/whatever to cover it. Sometimes it works out, most of the time I've ended up with the balance.

It's happened to me numerous times. It's a convenient way for the company to avoid paying for a hotel. As a commuter, it's a good reason to be a line holder vice on reserve.

It is when the scheduler is new and sends you to the hotel and you check in before she calls you back to tell you you're no longer on the trip.
