Every time I have used a seat request on standby I have never had issues.... Also you don't even need a boarding pass to go into the US Airways lounge.... That may change with the AA merger, but so far it has been great on long sits or while commuting. Only thing is you cannot wear in there is your uniform, usually I just wear a jacket and never have had a complaint.

What is y'allz's commuting policy? I.e., how many flights and backups do you have to have to not get fired?
I tried a search and all I got was, "Commuting is a choice!!!"
Thanks

A commuting pilot who travels to his base by air will not be eligible for treatment under Section 23 Y. 2. unless he has attempted to travel on at least two flights (on and/or offline) that:
a. show adequate actual seat availability within 24 hours of the departure, considering the pilot's seniority and the normal load factor of the flight; or, on which the pilot has a jumpseat reservation
b. are scheduled to arrive at his base at a reasonable time before his scheduled report, and
c. are separated by at least two hours.
If you meet these requirements, here is what the policy gets you:
A commuting pilot who is unable to report to his base as scheduled, due to an interruption to his travel plans, will notify Crew Scheduling of his inability to report as soon as possible. Crew Scheduling may, at its discretion:
a. deadhead the pilot (without pay or credit) to join his rotation,
b. place the pilot on his rotation when it transits his base (without a rotation guarantee),
c. remove the pilot from the rotation without pay, or
d. remove the reserve pilot from his on-call day without pay.
We also have a FOM policy which is about the same, and should get you a positive space seat on your back up flight. But that option should be used rarely.

A captain who I enjoyed flying with several years ago was all for the guy who ended up getting elected to the top spot. His motivation for voting for the guy? Healthcare. Haven't seen him in a while, but I'd love to ask him what he thinks about the results so far.

With all of this reserve talk I went and looked at the ATL 88B res. The senior guy on 88B has already flown 60 hours this month! So much for worrying about the buckets. With guys now flying this much on reserve will it increase the manning because of the "Staffing formula"?
I'm thinking reserve will start to go junior again with guys flying so much. The ALV+15 was a huge concession on C2012.

I saw your post and wanted to thank you all of the APC people for your kind words over the last week. Needless to say, this has been the worst week of my life. Both Delta Air Lines and ALPA have done everything you would expect and more. I feel like I have three support groups, my family, my Delta family, and my ALPA family and they all have kept me able to get up in the morning.
One of the hardest moments was the juxtaposition of cost and value. She just bought a house 4 months ago and while she was saving up for it she was driving my old car. Since she was a little messy, I was cleaning up her car before giving it to charity. I found this old sweater that she wore just about every day. I can picture her now wearing that sweater at the front door (it is glass) stopping over after work. It was from Old Navy and probably cost $25 brand new and was now worth about $1.50 at a yard sale.
So I have a car still worth thousands, despite it's age, and a sweater with no monetary worth at all. Guess which one I am giving away and which one I will have until the day I die.
The bottom line is I am shaky. Most people that have worked with me know that the tougher things got the tougher and meaner I got. Now I just feel off balance and trying to get my feet back. You could do or say anything to me and it just rolls off my back, but my daughter, that has knocked me like nothing else.
I hope this doesn't drag people down, but sometimes writing things down makes me feel better.

I lost a brother not too long ago and my father lost a son. I recently finished a partial hike of "the way of St James" aka the Camino de Santiago in Spain in memory of my brother. It ends at the church in which the apostle James is buried. There are numerous "pilgrims" hiking the way for various reasons. For me, it was a cathartic and personal journey for my brother. I believe if my dad was able, he would have a similar experience as me.
My dad lost a child. It is way different than my experience of losing a brother. I cannot even begin to console you, but just pray that in time the peace of God that transcends all understanding will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.
