Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
We should create a model that gives a newhire with 30 years of projected employment a DC that will get them close to what the FAE formula gave guys before the plan was lost. To make $150K in todays dollars someone would have to contribute about $42,000 per year for 30 years at 3% inflation and get an annualized returen of 8% to pull 150K during retirement. That is about 35% for most FO's (probably not attainable) and about 21% for most Captains. So if we could get something above 21% and then pitch in some of our own coin while we are FO's to get to the 35% during those years, we could in theory almost restore the retirement plan to those who have around 30 years left. The big mess is how do you resotre it to the deadzoners who don't have that time?
By the end of 2010 we're likely to be even closer to the recovery or continue on the slow uptick in the economy on top of the fact that by that point we're going to be 3 years into the age 65 change. The closer and closer we get to 5 years after the change the more and more retirements we will see. Projecting whether there will be furloughs over a year and a half from now is kinda jumping the gun a bit. A year and a half in this industry is an eternity. time will tell

iaflyer and Super,
Pilot I was flying with had a copy of the code a phone which printed over the margin. The "not" was cut off his copy, so it read "contemplating furloughs" as opposed to "not contemplating furloughs."
Good news, my bad!

Again, I dont see the big picture I guess but I definitely dont understand it. Talked to the Network guy on the roadshow or whatever its called, and he basically said we are making money with Alaska feeding us......
"Premier global airline" with basically 6 East coast Bases and 2 (3 if you count SEA) west coast bases.....

Amen and amen to both of you guys! I dont get it, I mean I dont understand the economics behind the whole code share with Alaska or the fact that maybe Delta doesnt want to "compete" with Alaska or Southwest on the west coast but I have been saying that for awhile....We are "The premier global airline" yet we cant fly LAX-SEA, LAX-SFO, LAX-DFW, LAX-ORD, etc etc on Delta!?!?
